So, I'v recently been playing a lot of Pokemon Heartgold on my 3DS lately, and it's been starting to randomly freeze during battles. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Also, does anyone know a way to prevent this? It's getting really annoying and I can't find out why it's doing this. Please, great help will be appreciated.

Is it only freezing on this game? Or have you experienced something like this in other games?

If you have ever used an Action Reply on this game, this will happen.

Also, if you have too much data on the 3DS (games, swap notes) it tends to mess up some games.

Also, if you have any irregular Pokemon in the game (even just through a glitch) that can do it.

Does this happen in all battles or just a few?

This could also be a problem with an old game disk, how old is the disk?

Barathemos :
zanderlex :

It only happens with this game, and it seems to only happen with just a few battles. I have never used an Action Replay on this game before, and I got this game for Christmas. It's most likely all the space on my 3DS that is taken up, as Barathemos said. It seems to have calmed down a bit and stopped crashing for now ever since I posted this thread. However, I don't think this solves the problem, because whenever it calms down, it just starts to crash again the next day.

LunarDarkness2 : Have you tried to soft reset the game in game? (To soft reset press L + R + Select + Start)

This could fix the problem, if it doesn't, there really aren't many things you can do.

You could contact Nintendo for an answer, but this DID happen with my Diamond game a few years back and I had to restart the game.

Also, it is not the 3DS that is faulty if it only happens on this game. Could just be a bad copy of the game/bootleg copy?

These are the only ways that I think could work...

Sorry about the struggles.

Barathemos : I tried taking your advice, and once my game froze again, I tried soft-resetting, but it didn't work. It kept showing the same frozen image. I guess I'll just put it away for today and wait until tomorrow to play it again, and see how that goes. Thanks for trying to help.

Yeah, for now just putting it away and letting it cool down for a bit could be the best option besides bringing it somewhere to get it looked at and even that might not work. Hopefully it was just being overused.

LunarDarkness2 : Would the 3DS cartage happened to be damaged because if it keeps freezing up on you even after you do the soft resetting, it might be an issue with the game cartage, would they any signs on any kind of damage with it, if you don't see any physical damage, then it might be data that might be damaged.

IgorBird122 : I don't see any physical damage on the cartdridge. So, like you said, it must be damaged data that is causing the freezing.

LunarDarkness2 : Yeah, more in likely it might be problems with the data which is causing it to freeze up because if you said that the game don't have any physical damage, then something must of corrupted the data which cause it to not function, I think if you take it to a game store of some sorts to see on what they can do, then that might be the only way, but they might not, because that is my only guessing on what to do with a damaged data game cartridge.
