To the Editors:
This letter is about Autism and how people make it as bad jokes. It makes others feel down and people just laugh at the sad people. When Autistic people get mad, they try not to cry. Well Autism is defined in psychology textbooks as “a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by impaired social and communication skills and rigid and repetitive patterns of behavior.” Even though I am different from other people no two people are alike and no two snowflakes are alike. No one is the same and we all act differently. I hate it when people call me a four year old. It’s just my personality. I wouldn’t call someone something mean, just because of their personality. I just turn the other cheek so they can slap it, not really. When people make fun of me, it makes me want to bite them, or growl at them, or even kick them. I know it is not okay to do that and that it is best to walk away. I used to bite and kick people because I was really mad and I did not know what to do. Even though some autistic people cannot speak but they can still listen. Even if they cannot talk, a person is still a person. Others though are shy or they talk until they get attention. No matter what problem they have, they still have feelings and want to be treated like people. Sometimes autistic people are misunderstood and other times they misunderstand things. Sometimes I try to do my best to be like other people but I don’t always do it. Like I said, no two people are alike and no two snowflakes are alike. And let’s not forget, autistic people are people too. So even if they have disability, disabilities have abilities. Plus autistic people are not for bad jokes, that will hurt their feelings and that will make them upset, and they are not used for slavery, they are used for their own desire. They are different, just like everyone else. I treat them as a family, I hug them, and I tell good luck. So even if you are a bad person, you can change your action now. Sincerely, Rachel Ella
