Back in May, it was alleged that technology company Philips had filed a complaint against Nintendo. That complaint was that Nintendo had infringed on two Philips patents in the US. According to said complaint, the patent was for an "interactive system for which a user can remotely control devices in an intuitive manner." Then in June, over in the UK this time, Nintendo lost a lawsuit in which the court stated Nintendo was in fact infringing on two of Philips' motion control patents. The Judge at the time, Colin Birss, ruled that that the Wii, Wii Remote, Wii Motion Plus controllers, Nunchuk, Balance Board, Wii U console and GamePad violate patents laid out by Philips in the UK. The new licensing agreement ends all proceedings brought against Nintendo by Philips, and those which Nintendo brought against Philips.

Interesting.

Seems like a serious case if the Wii and all its accessories were actually infringing on copyright.

I'm guessing settled means Nintendo just paid them a heap of money? That would make the most sense.

Considering Nintendo let Philips use its characters in some of the worst monstrosities in gaming, I think they don't have room to complain about a concept that both Sony and Microsoft attempted as well. Plus an  "interactive system for which a user can remotely control devices in an intuitive manner" literally describes any other gaming system. What defines an "intuitive manner"? It could be argued that a NES controller is "intuitive". This is just stupid.

Phillips still exists? They should be burned at the stake for what they did to Zelda. We still feel the pain of those games today.
