I realise this will be heavily biased, being posted on a board dedicated to retro games. Also, let's not turn this into a competition.

So, do you prefer newer or older games? Why?
Personally, I mostly find myself enjoying somewhat newer games (Less than 10 years old). I like having a good story, but I find many retro games lacking in that aspect. It's also nice to have good 3d without annoying set camera angles.

I prefer Modern games. There are many Retro games that I enjoy, but the ones that I enjoy are more fun on the actual console. I love the retro Metroid games, but I still have 50+ modern games that I enjoy more than that.

Totally love retro games. What they might lack in a more fleshed out story and fancy controls- the right retro game can get you right into the action with little to no loading screens and accomplish its core game play very well.  Also modern games tend to suffer from a gluttony aspect of bigger is better, even if its not needed.  ...And maybe I just miss simpler times when people just wanted to make games without worrying about DRM concepts, Disc Lock Content, or any of the other woes of today's games.

I prefer playing the old retro games. Maybe it is because I am 38 and grew up during Nintendo infancy. I still remember a friend of mine who's parents owned a video store and they had all of the new Nintendo games pre-1987. I sure was jealous of him especially when he wouldn't let me borrow his game of Elevator Action.

I really like both retro and modern games but if I had to pick one I'd pick retro games because I grew up with a lot of those especially GBC, GBA, N64, and Playstation games.

This really isn't a question that I want to answer, but I'll do it anyway. When I'm hanging out with my buds, we do either or. Usually it's a newer game because multiplayer Nintendo style, there are a few older ones (2001-2003) that I still like to play with them, but we've either completed everything or theirs a better version of the game. For instance, Mario Kart: Double Dash was overruled by Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8. A game that we still play (that's retro) is Tales of Symphonia.

When I'm playing by myself, I still play both retro and new games. I've played all the new games I've wanted to play, and now I've found myself returning to older games or games I haven't played yet. Games I haven't played yet, but will play soon are games such as Pikmin 1 and 2. I've also found myself replaying basically all the retro Zelda games.

So when I'm with friends, the retro games we play are around 30 percent, and the newer games we play lies around 70 percent. At the same time when I'm by myself, the ratio is reversed to 30 percent newer games, and 70 percent retro games. But I'll leave that up to you if you want to believe if I like newer/retro games the most.

I love Retro games, don't get me wrong, but I'd have to say modern games. The advances in technology really make things better-as much as I adore some of the older Zelda games, for example, they just don't hold a candle against Ocarina of Time (and that's not even a particularly new game!)

And besides, there's no way they could have pulled off Overlord in the Retro days, and that's one of my favorite games of all time.

(Plus the music is better now. Thank god. If there's anything I HATE about retro games it's usually the music. My ears, my poor bleeding ears...make it stop...)

I don't really have a preference between the two. I enjoy them both equally. Games are games, regardless of when they were made.

I can't say I prefer one over the other because there is so many in each that I like to play. Got just way too many retro games that are solid gold when it comes to nostalgia factor. The newer games while very good tend to be told and re-told versions of old games. Not saying that I don't like new games because there are a lot of them that I play quite often ( and quite often you get new takes on the newer games )  but if I had to pick just one to play ( unable to play the other anymore ) then I would happily choose retro games.

I love all generations but I feel that older games (from Ps2/gamecube/xbox generation and earlier) have something special that modern games lack. Nowadays, game developers can do just about anything they want with the huge power of modern systems. However, before that, game designers had to get creative with what they had, and the end result possesses something that modern games can't touch.
