That's right! It's my country's Independence Day today! On this day, back in 1943, Lebanon gained its independence and became the country I know and love today!
I complain about it a lot, and it does have many problems, but I love it for being, unlike some other Arab countries, a culturally diverse place that welcomes people of any nationality of religion with open arms, and for being home . In fact, 40% of Lebanese are Christians! That's the highest percentage of Christians in any Arab country! I already see Christmas trees being put out ^^ (mine will be, too!).
Plus, the food here is delicious!
Here are some facts about my country !
In Lebanon, there's 1 doctor per 10 people (it rocks to be a tiny country!), whereas in Europe and America, there is 1 doctor per 100 people. Which one is more reliable? I'd say the European or American one, but that's just my opinion XD.
Beirut, Lebanon's capital (and where I live), has been destroyed and rebuilt 9 times!!! This is why it's compared to the phoenix .
There are 3.5 million Lebanese in Lebanon and 15 million Lebanese outside Lebanon (I can see why, as things were getting a little rough around here).
Lebanon has been occupied by 16 countries, most recently France until 1943... Whatever! We're popular XD!!!
The first law school in the world was built in Lebanon's capital!
Byblos, a city in Lebanon, is the oldest continuously living city in the world (its 7,000th birthday was celebrated in 2006).
The first set of alphabet was created in Byblos.
The only remaining temple of Jupiter (the Roman god) in Baalbeck, Lebanon.
LEBANON IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW NON-DICTATORIAL COUNTRIES IN THE ARAB WORLD (WE DO HAVE A PRESIDENT! ...Or at least we'll have one again, soon. These elections are taking forever )!!! Most Lebanese people speak three languages, namely, Arabic, French, and English. Joseph Barbara and William Hanna, the creators of Tom and Jerry, are from Lebanon!!! Lebanon, which represents 1/40 of the total area of the Arab Peninsula, produces 70% of publications in the Arab world! Most people associate the quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country", with a speech made by U.S. president John F. Kennedy in 1961. In fact, it came from Gibran Khalil Gibran, a Lebanese writer. Tony Fadell, a Lebanese, is known as "one of the fathers of the iPod" for his work on the first generations of Apple's music player. Lebanon, as tiny as it is, fought off major terrorism twice. Hezbollah (translated, meaning "Party of God"), a Lebanese political party which has been classified as a terrorist organization by many countries, defeated the Israeli Army during the invasion, gaining it temporary praise and respect (oh, the irony). The Lebanese Army itself was able to expel Fateh Al Islam terrorists from its Palestinian camp. Hassan Kamel Al-Sabbah was a technological leader whose inventions to do with electricity had a great impact on the development of the 20th century. He was the first one to work on solar energy. Carlos Slim, once the richest man in the world, is of Lebanese descent. I love Lebanon, and I always will! I can even sing the first verse of the national anthem X3! Speaking of which, here's a link (ignore the English lyrics' cheesiness; the song really is much better in Arabic), and enjoy! It's called Kulluna Lil Watan, which, translated, means "All Of Us For The Country" (even the title in English sounds corny ). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A03xLQ-wgskHappy Independence Day, Lebanon! I love you, and I always will!!! NintendoFanKimmy, out!~ Go to Google, and hover your cursor over today's Google Doodle.
