PSX 2 Player Controller Setup?

I tried to piggyback this to an already existing PSX Controller thread but it was already closed.

Anyway, I've been trying to get a 2nd controller connected to the PSX games but it never gives me the option. I was able to access the menu and configure my 1st game pad, but after it's configured it ends and never prompts for a second controller config. Am I missing something or the psx emulators just don't support a second controller?
