I have just heard about the Ebola. It's spreading. I hear that it cannot be spread by any means except contact with bodily fluid, but it still worries me. What if they are wrong. I just read in the paper that, the second nurse that has Ebola visited Akron, Ohio and was also in Cleveland. The paper said just yesterday that, a student in Boardman has a relative who was on that plane with the contaminated nurse. Naturally, I am quite concerned, it is only 40 minutes away from me! (Well, potential, anyways.) I spent quite a bit of time worrying about it yesterday, but then I stopped and realized something. Why should I worry about this? If everything comes from the Hand of GOD, and I know that it does, then whatever happens HE has a purpose and plan for. I am determined to live by these words..."I want to live, like there's no tomorrow, love, like I'm on borrowed time. It's good to be alive." Yes it is. As long as I am alive on this earth, I know that I will always have a job and a purpose. I intend to live that purpose out to the fullest every day. If GOD is for us who (or what) can stand against us. Nothing is going to happen outside of GOD's will, as long as I strive to honor HIM. so the best thing that I can do right now is give HIM my fears and my doubts, and leave all the consequences to HIM as I strive to obey HIM and live to the fullest.

Now, I am not going to get into the religious part of this, because I couldn't care less for it.

Now, I will say everyone is making way to big of a deal over Ebola. Yes, it's a potentially fatal disease (Around 50% fatal) and yes, it could cause an epidemic. But seriously, with all the care the U.S. has over this issue, I doubt it will ever get any big. Most people with it have been quarantined, and being treating, hopefully we will find a cure soon.

Just my 2 cents, though. I just feel people are freaking out, because it is not a light issue, no, but not a huge issue either.

Yeahhh.... Ebola's best friend is the way the central Africans try to hide all signs of it and deny anybody's infected with it.  (They've decided for themselves that Ebola is 'white man's disease' because Caucasian doctors are always where Ebola is, and they're not sophisticated enough to understand talk about reversing cause and effect even if they didn't want to believe it white men lying to them.)  It is not and will not be an epidemic on US soil, and the international medical community has been begging people to stop panicking about that and refocus on Africa, where it really is a major problem.

Nothing's going to happen to you. The medical care in the US is way too good for someone not ancient or an infant to be killed.

Stop freaking out, it's just the news stations wanting to sell their stories.

I think that using faith to calm oneself is decent enough. However letting it lead you to believe that you're immune to the disease, and therefore entitled to take unnecessary risks, is a pretty dangerous bet to make. I don't know if anyone here believes that, but I know that there are some who believe that their faith makes them immune to this sort of thing.

Also, I don't think that thinking it's part of a divine plan should be used to acquit us of responsibility. If we decide not to intervene because we're losing people, that's another story. But as moral individuals, we should be compelled to save life where it's practical to do so.

But as for not worrying, that's probably the best path to take. Mostly because our containment efforts seem to be effective enough to stop this from spreading on a national scale.

I respect that you have faith but it won't make you immune to everything.

Moving swiftly on away from the religious aspect because I prefer not to have discussions that can not be finished

Ebola is pretty evil, But the chances of it becoming a real threat at this moment in time are minimal, There was someone in France that had it and has antibodies against it already. So it's not like other major epidemics where people could not fight the disease and survive or they did not have the technology to use the survivors antibodies...

The only chance a illness has of being a threat to human kind, Is if it attacks people so violently they die to quickly for the illness to be assessed quickly and that it's spread so quickly without any symptoms. Basically it'd have to be something like a huge worldwide virus that went undetected and then it would have to evolve rather rapidly to cause quick death to the human. And then you'd still probably have places where the virus couldn't survive such as extreme heat or cold...

All in all don't worry, be happy.

EideticMemory : Just so you all know. I never meant that I am immune to anything because I believe in GOD. I never meant that I can pretty much do anything and not worry about it. My faith does not mean that I am reckless. I will take any precautions that I would need to. I have been taking some immune system boosting vitamins, and I got a flu shot. What I meant was that I am not going to hide in my house, afraid that I'm going to catch a deadly disease. What I meant was that I should not and will not be worrying about something that is beyond my control, not the things within my control--sensible precautions.

FaithFighter :

So long we are people who read the front of the book also.

We will be fine.

Here's the New York Times. I have no idea how credible the source is, but it wouldn't surprise me if Ebola could spread through the air.

Any high enough risk needs to be considered.

That might actually be a reason to fight the epidemic in Africa.

Right now we might think that by cutting all ties with the affected countries we'll be safe, but if the virus did mutate enough to become air-borne, it would affect us regardless.
