Heya guys, Green here with another thread!! So not sure if it's the right forum, but anyway here's a simple question. What's the most important thing for you in a sports match? To win, lose or to have fun? For me it's definitely have fun. Why? Well let's say I was having an epic Tennis match with a rival. I found it super fun that we came out with a tie. Later, he beats me and I always say when I'm defeated 'Good match!'. So U, what's the most important thing about a match? Winning, losing or to have fun?

Having fun, of course. I usually don't have a good shot at winning when I play in a sports match and when someone beats me it doesn't bother me unless they rub it in, like one of my friends does to me constantly. Also, when I win, I'm happy, but I usually don't make a big deal out of it and I don't boast about it.

Do you know what is fun?  Being extremely good at a sport and doing all the things you wish you did.  I play highly competitive soccer and a few other sports and I play for the competition of it.  The objective is to win.

I'm 32, so I practice to get better and improve my skill and win games.  That's the point for sports for me at my point in life.  I'm done with the 'good try" and the "We had fun so losing's okay."  Now the discussions, if we lose, start out with something like, "Where were you on the pass?" or "Why the heck didn't you finish that ball?"

Winning.  I love to win, I hate to lose, I can lose graciously but the point is to win.

That depends on where you are.

If it's just a game you put together in five seconds with your friends, it's more about having fun. There's no point in being hyper-competitive about some friendly competition.

However, if we're talking about organized sports like NFL stuff, it's more about winning. It's great to have fun, but as warmaker said, the ultimate goal is to move up the ranks and bring glory.

Normally I would say that playing a game is about having fun.  However, in terms of sports, I think the goal of the game definitely depends on the level you are playing at.  The whole point of most sports IS to win the game, so if you're playing with any other objective, you likely won't be playing at your best.  Therefore, if playing professionally, I think the game is more about winning than having fun.  Can you imagine a college football team at the Super Bowl saying "What us? We just came here to have some fun!"

For me I would definitely have to say I play sports for fun. I like winning, losing doesn't seem like a big deal, but I really can't stand aggressive sports...

For me, it's not always going to be winning, but it's playing well. There are going to be many games where you win a game, but overall as a team, they performed poorly and may have only won because the other team played much worse or by luck. As long as the team plays well and has exciting moments and plays, then that's all that matters, because it combines a perfect blend of success and fun.

Singelli :  A college team at the Super Bowl?  you crack me up girl.

I don't really play sports competitively anymore but when I did (basketball, baseball) winning was always the goal and really fun when you did.  Looking back after all these years though, I am glad to just have been a good player and have fun with it.  At the time it was more about winning but in the long run I think it is the fun of the game rather than the thrill of the win that kept me going so hard.

fightorace:  Gosh... you guys on vizzed are cracking me up today. XD

Okay, so I obviously don't know much about football, right? But hopefully I made my point. lol  (*whispers*  What kind of teams go to the super bowl, then?)

I understand what you are saying about fun, but what about the professionals who get paid?  I don't think their goal should be fun, but rather... that they'd love their job enough that 'fun' is just the reward of working.... That they enjoy what they do, in other words.

Singelli :  Yes your point was made it just made me chuckle was all.  And professional teams go to the super bowl.  College teams have many of their own bowls and tournaments.

Also I agree with you on your statement that professionals goal should be to win, they are paid for just that, anything less would be disappointing to fans I think.  It does go hand in hand with my statement about how at the time it is about winning but afterwards hopefully they can look back at the fun they had too.
