The radiation emitted by cell phones, known as radiofrequency (RF) radiation, is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Hundreds of millions of Americans use cell phones and many of them wonder if there are any health risks.

People who say cell phones are safe reference statements by the FCC and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and point to peer-reviewed studies which conclude that cell phone use is not associated with an increased risk of brain tumors or the onset of other health problems. They contend there has been no increase in brain tumor rates despite hundreds of millions of people now using cell phones.

People who say cell phones are not safe cite peer-reviewed studies showing an association between cell phone use and tumor growth, DNA damage, and decreased fertility. They say cancers take 20-30 years to develop and cell phone studies have monitored periods of 10 years or less. They highlight the International Agency for Research on Cancer’s classification of cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogen.

Well, I have used cell phones for years, and there is nothing wrong with me... 
I don't think there is any harm from cell phones, and people who say there is are just over reacting. 

There is no proof that cell phones are at all harmful to life. I understand the reason for concern, with many comparing phones to microwaves, but the wave strengths are not even comparable.

What do you mean by "safe"?

At this point, cell phones aren't really considered to be harmful and a threat to people right now. There are millions of people who have cell phones and use them on a daily basis. I do agree with thenumberone on how cell phones' waves aren't very strong compared to other stuff.

thenumberone : as the technology in cell phones increases does the strength of these waves increase? with the increased use of text messages, games, and interntet browsing people are looking in to the bright tiny screen almost constantly. could that have harmful effects on peoples vision?

No. The signal strength is not based on the phone model. They are set to specific frequency's based on the distance the signal is sent, and the type of device it's for.
Typically short distance waves are more dangerous, such as microwaves.
we dont use them for communications devices, because they are dangerous, and cant reach long distances.

Its like radiation. the shorter the wave the more dangerous.
There are more serious issues than phone signals. It wont kill you.
As for increased use effecting vision, it can happen. But thats a case by case basis. Most people arent effected unless they already had previous conditions.
Its actually better that you have a large screen, and a well lit work environment.

RF signals have been determined to be safe. RF has been around for the better part of a century, and if it was dangerous, then it wouldn't only be cell phone users who have to watch out, but also anyone who lives within 50 miles of a radio station.

I have, however, heard that cellphones which use 4G networks to communicate can be dangerous, but this is unconfirmed.
