Ah yes, time to start this off with a story.

I was recently sick for the past 5 days, and while i was sick i decided to rewatch some Ghost in the Shell. And it was a pretty fun little marathon. But then i realised something.

Ghost in the shell is one of the best things i have ever watched, and it did not have much fan service. After i finished my marathon, nose running, body completely inefficient,i started asking myself a question.

Why does anime have fanservice?

Well to answer that question we are going to have to dig into society, not just society in the west, but in near every culture.(No disrespect to the female gender here. Also get ready for some history kids.)For humanity as a species it is clear that are main motive is to procreate(Based on all the information we have gathered). For some reason, some sort of..Receptor goes off in our head that tells us "Its time to mate!"

And because this is a "Family site" I feel you all get the point, and i don't need to progress down that discussion any further,so lets move on.In most societys these days its..Well i hate to say it,but its been proven that the sexual influence of woman is much stronger than the sexual influence of men.Why this is,is a mystery. There have been serveral theories on this topic, but most people can't find an answer.

Moving on though. This was..Mostly already known as a fact,in our society. Not even our society, but through most of the human races existence.Christ,go look at some old roman and french paintings.Nudity among woman was very common in culture back in those days. But for men though..Not really. Most of the males body was covered.Only thing showing was the chest area. But once again going off on something else that has nothing to do with anime, back on topic.

During the 1960's sexual references, and innuendos started to become prevelant on the small screen,as well as the big screen. At first it started off small.Elvis swinging his hips from side to side. The jetsons making an occasional dirty joke the children would not possibly get at that age. However this naturally grew bigger, and bigger. And here we are today.Fan service galore.Oppai.Boobies.Waifus on sale for 50$.The works.

CHECK OUT MY FAN SERVICE YO!

MORE!

EVEN MORE! *Evil Laugh*

MOR-HOLD IT HOLD IT HOLD IT! That's my waifu. We're done now, games over.

Anyhow back to the point. In anime fan service has gotten to the point that its a complete stigma of the genre."Oh anime, that Japanese cartoon porn right?"

And to be honest, its kind of hard to argue against people who don't want to watch anime, specifically because of fan service.Try watching any anime out right now that does not have fan service.Go ahead try it,i'll wait.

*5 days later*

Told you,its impossible.Which can also bring us to another question.Should we just accept it as something that goes with the genre? In my opinion, yes.I don't exactly like having it shoved in my face for 30 mintues straight over the course of 12-24 episodes.(Oh yeah, lets not forget those 300 episode shonens.)

But i've come to accept it.Even all of my favorites female characters, not just in anime, but everywhere in general are sexualised to some extent.Seras Victora from Hellsing Ultimate? Panty shots and boobies.Maka Albarn from soul eater..Okay she is pretty tame. There is just one scene in the Manga where she has a very subtle panty shot.Sylvanas Windrunner from World of Warcraft? (Yeah i know its not an anime, just sit down and listen.) Decently skimpy outfit that would provide little protection from most forms of damage.

Then again i don't think we have asked the question,is this right or wrong?

In my opinion, its all an opinion. If you want to be sexual and show some skin,i say screw it,go ahead.Whats wrong with a man wanting to be sexy? Whats wrong with a woman wanting to be sexy? We were all born naked anyway, and its your choice. And i honestly feel respect for some people who feel the need to embrace there sexuality.

And i hate to bring it back to video games, but the reason why Sylvanas from the World of warcraft series is my favorite video game character is exactly because of this. She is the embodiment of the phrase "Deal with the cards your dealt." She doesn't just accept her fate of being some rotting corspe, she embraces it.She makes it known to everyone. But there is a chance none of you even know what the heck i am talking about,so i will shut up.

In all honesty i feel as if i have said everything i need to say.I now leave it up to you-The reader,to tell me your thoughts on this subject.See yah next time.

Huh..Looks like i got banned from the site for posting so much fan service...

Could i ask something? If i'm attracted to Sylvanas, does that make me into necrophilia..? Don't exactly want that on my track record.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it's was a Japan thing, where nakedness meaning purity? That or to attract more viewers. One of the most fanservice-y animes that I've seen was probably Senran Kagura... so much to a point that they make fun of that. Or Kill la Kill... pretty much everyone in that show gets naked a one point. No, wait, let me rephrase that. Everyone that was IMPORTANT was naked at least once, because one of the final scenes in that show was...
Spoiler:
when everyone from Nudist Beach (or everyone that was against Ragyo) was in a gigantic pile to cushion a falling-from-space (and naked, from her kamui burning up in the atmosphere. It can stop a lot of things, but an atmosphere? Nope.) Ryuko.

But that show had a message attached to the nakedness. So, fanservice was a plot device. Honestly, for the first few episodes, it pretty much was fanservice, until about episode 7 or something.
