When I am on Route 101 assisting Professor Birch I am given the choice of three Pokemon: Treecko, Torchic or Mudkip. However, Torchic and Mudkip are replaced by Cyndaquil and Squirtle. Is there any way to have a Torchic early on in the game or must I go all the way to Fiery Path, or Magma Hideout (three places notorious for having Fire-types) to catch it?

   I'm pretty sure the only way to get the other starters is going to the Altering Cave which is after Slateport City, but unlike the original game, the cave is open without having to beat the Elite 4. There have been those posts that say you can catch starters in other places, but I haven't ever seen those proven true, since it seems to be for a different hack.
