What can someone say to you as a compliment that will make you smile all day long?  I had a female member at my gym tell me if she wasn't already friends with my wife, my wife would have to look out because I looked good with my shirt/tie combo yesterday.  She wasn't being serious about it but it was a really nice compliment.

What could someone tell you that would make your whole day?

I don't really have a specific compliment I particularly like hearing the most. Just knowing that someone has taken notice of something I worked on feels pretty great especially if it's something I can be a bit self conscious about. I used to really enjoy getting compliments on my hair because I'd finally figured out how to rock it naturally but I had to cut it all off a while back and it's growing back now. Don't hear too much about my hair now besides "Wow, it grows so fast!" Which is fine, hopefully soonish it'll be back at a decent length. 

You go to the gym in a shirt and tie? Very flash.

Any compliment is good if its genuine. The problem is (at least in this country), if for example, you get dressed up, it's common courtesy to say they look good. Even if they don't.
I'd rather people didn't compliment me just to go through the motions. Anything that's genuine, I appreciate. Even if it isnt something I care about, their observation is nice.

Really, just getting appreciate for something I put a lot of work into does it for me.
Outside of that though, it's always nice when people tell me they have interesting conversations with me

When people say I'm too nice (one guy said this to me today) or hearing I did a good job with something and I should be proud of myself, or hearing that I did something well even though I feel like I didn't.

I like hearing that I'm cute/handsome every once in a while, especially from an equally cute/pretty woman.

The best compliment I ever got was that I am an awesome female for playing video games and there are barely any female gamers who actually play games and have a passion for it from a few males. It makes me feel flattered and special to be told that.

One time someone told me "I like the way you think."

Not sure I've ever gotten anything more meaningful than that. It was beautiful to me because my thoughts, my ability to reason and figure things out, are what I consider one of the most important things about myself.

I like 2 things in particular. When people compliment me on my looks, which doesn't happen every day, but does probably more often than some other people. And also when people compliment my eye color. I have about 5 colors in my eyes and it's something that I really like about myself

Don't judge me the best compliment that could given to me is that wow Deg you are Normal *I dislike being complimented on my looks or other things I want to be considered normal that's all*

It's actually super hard to compliment me these days.

Most people who try end up failing miserably, since I don't care for my appearance, I don't care to improve my academic intelligence, I don't care about the concerns of others, and I don't care about... well most anything.

I'm an incredibly apathetic person, to the degree that most compliments just end up annoying me, and hurting the cause of the person trying to compliment me.

Because I'm so indifferent, there aren't many things that I "can" be complimented on, and the few things I do that are praiseworthy, I don't want to hear compliments on.

As a child, I was constantly peppered with praises and compliments and it just got to the point where I completely snapped, and lost interest in gaining those things.

So there "is" no best compliment I can hear. The best response to a compliment anyone really gets is a begrudging acceptance (really more of a grunt).

A compliment that'll make me smile all day?  If someone told me they had feelings towards me, or asked me if they wanted to be my friend.  Nobody has ever told me they liked, and I know there are guys who had a crush on me (at school and church). They didn't have the guts to tell me though. I would found out through people and examine how they would behaved around me. As for somebody to ask to be my friend, I'm usually the one to go up to people and ask. I know some of them are shy, or had past experiences with bad company, but. . . it would be nice if somebody did that to me, once in a while. It would be the so much to me, because that person wants to make me feel happy and share each other's interests.  There was this one time, when this guy walked up to me. I knew who he was, as well as he knew me, but we were never close friends-- just acquaintances. He said hi and how was my day. I started to cry and replied to him that he was the first person to come up to me and say hi today (At the time, I was going to that church for 6 years. I stopped though, because some rumors were spreading around about my family that weren't lining up with the truth). Anyways, sorry to get all emotional in this thread! A lot of things going up in my head right now, hahah!

lately been getting alot of compliments since I've been going out more

most of them are "handsome" "cutie" "sweetie" or a somewhat odd one i never got till recently "I love your laugh"

I think the best one I could hear at this point would be " Thank you for what you did. You really appreciate your help. " And I mean sincerely. I feel like I do a lot of things, but they aren't appreciated. Now, I don't things to get noticed; I'm just a generally helpful kind of guy. It is just lately I have been feeling like I don't really matter, so a sincere " Thank you, we appreciate what you do " would probably just make my day, and I would probably ride that high for a few days. 

You know, I never really think about it, but I don't really get compliments that often at all. I do get a lot of 'thank yous' for helping people with homework and stuff, though. Every now and then I still get a compliment on my intelligence as well. But, since I don't tend to have the best self image all the time, compliments on my appearance are quite welcome, though at times I even question the authenticity of them. I have been complimented a couple times on my eyes, though. They're green.

The best comment I could hear is that I'm a bum because I know it's true. It makes me happy to know people can be my friend and I am not the coolest kid in the pack and I don't try to be.

Compliments? Well, since I don't really have a great self-esteem going, anything's fine, but I'll wonder if you really meant it or not, then I'll over think it and end up disregarding it anyways.

Yeah, I think I am more of a feedback/criticism kind of person. Compliments feel one-sided to me.

I think the one I adore hearing the most is that I have a fantastic smile- people say it just illuminates and highlights everything else about me that they find attractive! As a girl who has suffered from bad anxieties and body image issues for years, I really like that my smile is complimented more than say, my shape or my measurements, as I am so modest and humble with my looks I wouldn't know what to say if someone came up to me and tried the classic hit-ups, ha.
