Does anyone know what I could possibly do with an old laptop? It would work fine, but one of the wires ripped apart and it wont turn on. Everything else should still work. Of course I could sell it, but I'd rather keep it and try to fix it myself in a few years. The only thing I can think of is making an external hard drive and then using the actual hard drive again later.

If I understand correctly, then you mean that the cord connecting a part of the hardrive is what's broken?

Well, if you can, why don't you buy a hardrive of the same model, and take the cord from that, and replace it?

Or, better yet, just find the cord if you can. It it's a generic cord, then there are probably a lot of different cords that you could replace it with.

Or, is it not that easy? :/

There are several places to go for stuff like this.
If the "A.V.G.N." can find a dude that turns toasters into Nintendos? Then I am certain there is a shop or a Professional around that can solve this issue.

Other than That? You could use it as a picture frame, Paper Weight, Etc, Etc, Etc...

With my sisters old laptop I think I want to install a new Os format. Do you know any free windows formats I can install(other than windows 95). The problem with the laptop is that when it boots up past Lenveo quick start and loads windows exp it crashes with the blue screen to death and restarts instantly. Can you help me.

I've been in the same situation before more than once.  If the ribbon cable is damaged, simply replace it.  They're all just about the same connection.  On a desktop pc you can cross the bwr on pins with a screwdriver when a pwr button is non existant, however on a laptop the circuitry is small and hard to manage.  Here is a power button board replacement if you cant find a ribbon replacement http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/191352155152?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107 ribbons should exist for this one.  Alternatively you could turn it into a desktop PC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkVhY-Bvt6U
