I need advice, I am at a complete loss for what I need to do. Today was the first day of class, and I still had not paid my tuition. For the last couple of months, the people who are in charge of me at my agency kept telling me that I need to switch to a Public college, which would be completely free AND I would get a refund of about 7 thousand dollars a year. But the people at the agent who are in charge of my education said I am not allowed to apply for other schools and that I need to stay in my current school.

I was actually at the school today, but just to use the computer lab, not for class. I called somebody from the agency to find out stuff and they said I had to go to class, even though I haven't paid and that I might never actually pay. They said that they are waiting for one final grant to go through and even after that, I will still owe more than 15 hundred dollars just for the fall semester.

First off, is that even a good idea? Going to class for a month or two with the possibility that the tuition may never be paid? Is that even allowed? And what would happen if after 2 months I end up leaving and either quitting for the semester, or going to one of the free schools? Would I still be responsible for the 3 loans I took out, even if the tuition was never paid in the first place?

Then things get worse. One good thing would be that I would have more access to the internet, about 10 hours a day more, and access to events like the BBQ today, but even if I do go to class and can somehow cover the rest of the tuition, even if they allow me to do that, I will still be in a terrible spot. I have no access to textbooks at all and no transportation, resulting in a 2 mile walk both ways 5 days a week. Those are the two worse problems, but then there also food. Sure, I can spend minimum time at school so I can eat at home, which would be about 5 hours a day in class and almost 2 just for walking. But with no home internet, I would have no possible way to do any homework or even my online class unless I do them all during class. The only way to fix the internet problem would be to stay in school an extra 4 or 5 hours a day, which would lead to about 10 to 12 hours a day out and about with no access to food. Unless of course there's one of those free events I mentioned, which are maybe once a week.

So I have no idea what to so, or how to even react. Do I go to class not having paid? Do I even try to do the work? I need help.

Wow, that's a pretty difficult situation you have. I didn't understand all of it, but I know what my Mom would have me do in a situation like this. She'd have me aggressively pursue answers to clear up issues, make a choice, then never look back too much. My suggestion is to find out why there's a discrepancy in the answers you received, find out what you want to do, then make a choice. If the school that doesn't provide food is the one that's paying me, I probably would go with that one. I could always bring food from home. As long as I had the ability to study and would get a comparable education to the other school, I think it would be worth it. But of course, I'm not gonna tell you what to do. I'm just trying to provide an opinion, an idea that might help you out. What you want is up to you.

zanderlex : I understood your statement to mean going to public college would result in you getting 7 grand a year. That's why I was suggesting it to be a good option.

zanderlex : Can you not switch schools at this point? It might be difficult, but manageable. Have you talked with your agent(s)?

Hmmm, strange situation. Ive been in a complicated situation sort of similar to your situation a couple times, so Ill give you my thoughts, my suggestions and how things turned out for me.

I tried to pay my tuition and get into college about a week after classes had started and they said it was too late, so I didnt go to school that semester, but also didnt have to pay anything.

You could just take this semester off, that way you wont have to pay tuition for that semester, and then work for the period of time you would have been in school, to try and pay some loans off, even if you have to swallow your pride and work at a mcdonalds or some place similar.

Regarding the walking super far 5 days a week, I did that from the age of like 8 to 18, since I went to a school that was in another neighbourhood, so regarding that, you can manage, and you will get plenty of exercise. Regarding not having food... can you not bring food from home... even if theyre snacks, or like an apple or something?

Clarity is what you need, so ask the people who say you cant switch schools to speak directly with the people telling you you should switch to the free school. Get phone numbers and email addresses for both of them and give them to the other person, that way you know that they will speak directly with one another and a solution will be made. Tell them that you have two people telling you two completely different things and they need to speak to one another so you can get a firm answer. Also, insist that time is crucial.

Just a heads up, at my college, you need to pay a minimum of $400 towards your tuition before you are able to chooses your classes, and then you can go the whole semester without paying the rest, but your mark is not registered until the tuition is payed.

Based on your situation, you should tell them that you cant afford text books even if you do go to the expensive college.

Best of luck.
