It got overated when the 7th one came out. But the 7th one is good. But that is also the hardest f-ing game i have ever played.

man, that game was so easy. I didn't die once beating that game. Not once.

Really? 7 was the only one i had trouble on. It was the only one i ever died on too...
And i only died on the last fight, fighting sephiroth, and fighting those things in the ocean, that you have a 30 minute count down.

Final Fantasy as a series is slightly overrated but it's mostly that way because of the bastard child of the series, FF7.
FF7 is hugely overrated, possibly the most overrated game of all time...
All the other games in the series are slightly underrated.

As far as difficulty, 8 was probally the tricky one as it required thought and strategy because no amount of leveling will help you when the monsters and bosses level every time you do.

Not sure it is overrated, maybe highly recommended and appraised by if anything is sugarcoated in overation its gotta be GTA, WoW, COD...

A little overrated but still a decent series. When I played VII, I wondered why everyone went gaga over it. It wasn't that great.

well it isn't a bad rpg-serie but there are better one's out there.

Whoever thinks these are overrated, check out Call of Duty, Halo, Grand Theft Auto...

well in my point of view no its not it has its appeal just like any other game so i dont think any game is overrated games all kick butt in their own way like smash bros halo legend of zelda and so on...

You guys don't know what you are talking about. Final Fantasy is in no way overrated. It is one of the most intricate RPG games i have played. I love other ones as well. Some even better than final fantasy, but final fantasy is well known and played. Especially when it comes to the games now a days. It is very intricate and planned as well as produced with voice acting and the created music and such. I'm not saying it's the best I'm saying it is rated accordingly.

I voted the least liking option, frankly I think its highly over rated. That's just my bias opinion. I just couldnt get into it, the only rpg games I liked were the Pokemon title's.

NEVER!!!!!! Final fantasy was, is, and always shall be one of the biggest video game titles of all time!!! Spawning on one of the earliest platforms (nes) and following alongside the timeline until currently! Still awesome as ever!

That is also true, Final Fantasy has games that span across pretty much all consoles. I think that makes it an elite game if its serious can last so long and still be popular.

I like the final fantasy series so I think its ok the way it is. Just that FF7 can be hyped up by fans a little too much.

I'd also like to be able to play some of the other RPG's that are never released outside of Japan (and in some cases America is included), because there are some better ones there.

i totally agree with you there, i love the series, and i think that its not overrated at all. thankyou for posting such a good post there.

While I might like the SNES versions of FF, I've always found the newer ones to be really overrated.

And the best RPG series ever? Nah, I would have to go with Ultima or Wizardry.

Final Fantasy is definitely NOT overrated. X is my favorite video game. I've beat it 3 times. Although they might be a little on the easy side, I think they have the best storylines. I do think VIII is underrated though.

As a whole, I say no. It's well worth it's reputation as one of the longest running series in all of gaming, being way back there along with Mario, Zelda, Metroid and such. And I DO think the 2D titles deserve every amount of respect they get. But then you get to FFVII, and everything goes downhill. Look, I can understand first 3D game nostalgia. The first time you see your favorite series in 3D is one of the most epic moments you'll ever have, but geez, FFVII gets my vote for most overrated game of all time.

After I finished playing X, I quickly got VII, expecting to experience an adventure that was the god of all video games: A perfected battle system with no flaws, perfect characters that weren't shallow at all, the most moving and emotional story line the world had ever seen, and the most timeless of all games. Because really, that's what people praise it as today. But no, it can't live up to it, and sadly, it brings the whole FF series with it. As long as the VII hype is alive, there will always be a part of me that thinks the series is overrated.
