I'm just going to say this now; I know next to nothing about this kind of stuff.
Anyway, a while back my uncle gave me a computer from his office he no longer needed. Obviously, an office computer isn't going to be set up for gaming. This computer can't really run any games (other than in-browser).
I however also have a computer which my friend gave to me, He says he originally built it for gaming (but because of a bad operating system or something like that it doesn't really work).
What i'm wondering is if I could take the graphics card from the friend's computer and put it onto my current one, and if it would actually be better.
I used the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and it says I currently have Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family. I opened up the friend's computer and I saw "Radeon X 1650 Pro". Would that be usable and better on my computer?
If you need any more info, just tell me how to find it and i'll give it to you. I could just really use some help here.

Is the radeon X 1650 pro PCI-E or AGP?
PCI-E is the common 'slot' that most pc's have for graphics cards, AGP is less common.

The motherboard will have the slots labeled.

The thing I suspected that will stop you is the power supply.
You need at least a 350w PSU, most low end systems have 250.

Does his not turn on at all?You cant use that?
Assuming that Your current pc has the correct slots for the graphics card, You could salvage the PSU from the old pc. If it works.

Summary:
What is the card, AGP or PCI-E?
Does your PC have The correct slots?
What is your PSU in watts?
What is the other pc's PSU?

Its not a great graphics card, but your on board graphics are pretty bad so it would be a significant improvement. It could probably run most games t low to medium settings. Intensive games like battlefield it would kill itself though.

I looked and the graphics card is AGP. Where is the PSU wattage located? I read it's inside the computer but i'm not seeing it anywhere in the friend's computer. (I'll look in mine once i've gotten all the info I need out of the friend's).
Also, last time I tried it, the computer itself would turn on but nothing would come up on the monitor. Before that everything would work but the computer itself was slower than anything (like it would take 5 minutes after clicking the start icon for it to actually pop up. And it would freeze often.)

XxnickcxX : Your power supplies wattage is usually found on a sticker which is on the unit itself. To be honest I think that you may be better off just re-installing a good OS on your friends computer.

Can we get some specs on the systems though? Just simple things such as brand, operating system, and processor if you can figure that out on BOTH machines.

jack3604 : Well, the friend's was custom built by him so idk a lot about it. I don't even see that sticker on it. All I know is it appears to be an Asus.
As for my computer, it's a Dell Optiplex 330. It's OS is 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU.

XxnickcxX : You would be much better off buying a new computer. That computer is very outdated to today's technology. I think it was made only about 6 or 7 years ago, but things have advanced a lot since then. I have a laptop with the same processor (or close) and it is NOT good or remotely fast.

jack3604 : Yeah, that's what I figured. Any recommendations? I was thinking of getting an AlienWare but my brother told me that's a ripoff.
Also, in the meantime before I get a new one, do you think that graphics card would work on my computer?

XxnickcxX : I wouldn't recommend an Alienware, because most of them are ripoff's. I have a Lenovo desktop and I'm very happy with it. On my computer I've changed the power supply and graphics card and that's it. As far as if you can use that card, as long as it fits your motherboard it should be fine, also make sure that you look up drivers for it if you decide to use it.

jack3604 : I've talked to some friends and such and I think the one i'm going to end up getting is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227575
In the mean time, i'll get my irl friend who originally built the PC to come over and see about transferring the card. Thanks for your help!
