For argument's sake, let's say we're talking about gen 4 (Sinnoh, with Dawn) forward.

I've seen the newer episodes of Pokemon receive a lot of hate. For a while I also didn't like the newer episodes, but my beef was with gen 5 (Unova, with Iris and Cilan) forward. I always liked Dawn and all of gen 4 personally, but Unova is where it went downhill for me. Recently, though, I've been watching the Unova episodes on Cartoon Network in the morning and I realized that they weren't all that bad (not that I decided I didn't like it before I watched any episodes). I haven't watched any of the Kalos episodes yet but I saw Ash's design for it and I thought it looked weird.

So I was wondering what others here think about the newer seasons. Do you hate them? Or do you think they're as good as the originals?

The newer seasons won't match the first few seasons in Kanto/Orange Islands since that is where the show got started(call it a nostalgia factor). However, I give the show credit in making Ash WORK for his badges in later seasons(seriously watch Season 1 and tell me how many Badges Ash won LEGITLY(which is defeating all the Gym Leader's Pokémon without Team Rocket interference, Team Rocket owning a Gym(as in the last one) or the Gym Leader giving him a badge).

As the Seasons rolled out, I thought their best Seasons were back in Hoen region with Max, May and Brock. Misty made a guest appearance during Hoen or while they were in Kanto(I forget), as did Dawn at the end of Unova. However, as they progressed through the Seasons I got the sense they were dragging things out and there was an ever wider gap between Gym Battles for Ash. It has become increasingly noticeable in the latest Season where it feels like its 20 Episodes before Ash has a Gym Battle. Which implies to me that they either have too much to discuss or they have so many Episodes ordered that they are trying to spread those out to keep people tuned in(which degrades the quality in my mind).

I actually haven't seen many episodes from Gen 4 or 5. I stopped watching Pokemon after Hoenn and then I started watching Pokemon again when XY came out. In total foe Gen 4 and 5 I might have only seen a total 5 to 10 episodes in total, so I don't have much of an opinion for them. I have seen a bunch of XY episodes and I really like them so far. In terms of the 4 anime generations I have seen the most, I would say that this one would be my 2nd favorite.

I've been trying my best to keep myself updated with the newest Pokemon episodes. I honestly like the 6th generation better than the 5th generation and the 4th generation was okay. I thought the 5th generation wasn't really interesting and appealing especially when Iris and Cilan annoyed me a lot. It's a bit weird to see Ash's drastic physical appearance change all of a sudden during the 6th generation especially when most of us are so used to the old Ash design from previous seasons.

The newer episodes mostly focus on friendship and the strategies of the gameplay from Pokemon games which can be rather boring at times as we hear it over and over again. Is it me or has Ash been losing more often than he used to do?

I prefer to the older seasons due to nostalgia reasons but I am still willing to keep up with the newer episodes.

Honestly, I haven't watched much of the Anime. But, I've seen enough that I can compare it. I liked the older ones better, mainly because I felt like they weren't dragging everything out.

I do prefer the older generations of the anime (especially the original Indigo League episodes (so nostalgic )), but I didn't mind Sinnoh, and I thought Dawn was okay.

Unova was okay for me as well...at the start. After a while though, I just got really bored with the series. I wasn't a big fan of Iris either.

I might finish watching the Unova episode eventually, but probably not for a while.

As for Kalos and the XY series...I don't know. Something that's bothering me is how derpy Serena looks to me. XD
