So I just finished my first review of a game that wasn't Pokemon... That also got featured (Yay) though that could've been because there were no other reviews available who knows...

Anyways to celebrate I'm doing yet another Pokemon game! Though this time it's a game that is a bit more modern namely Pokemon White 2.

Like in my Pokemon Blue review everything said here more or less applies to Pokemon Black 2 version as well because the 2 games are nearly identical outside of some differences that does not affect the score.

So lets yet again get into it!

Graphics: 7

Much like in a previous review I'm yet again split on the graphics. While I did find them quite good there are mainly 2 gripes I have. Firstly the 3d, now while I don't dislike them using 3d graphics in the game I don't always think it blends well with the 2d sprites, the same was the case in the original Black and White though I did think it was somewhat improved here. Also the sprites like in black and white, while it's cool to see Pokemon moving and they often do look good they often look just a tad bit too pixelated which will became noticeable since a huge portion of the game will be spent battling. With that said, I did still think the graphics in this game were good and unlike some of the other Pokemon games where I found the layout of the maps a bit repetitive sometimes, this is something I haven't noticed at all here. Each area has it's own feel, I also liked the fact that they decided to give certain places a different look in different versions, while this doesn't really affect the gameplay much, I still thought that was a cool idea that I wished they would've used in X and Y.

Sound: 10

So Pokemon games in general usually do have pretty good soundtracks and what do I have to say about this one? Well I think this is the Pokemon games with the best soundtrack to date without a doubt. When I first got these games, I was already used to the games having top notch soundtracks but when I played this game it just blew me away. The sheer variety of soundtracks just blew me away. For example each gym having its own soundtrack to fit its style (Castelia city gym nuff said) or the dark soundtrack that plays when battling the leader of Team Plasma, the hi tech feel of Coolress sound track or the epic soundtracks when battling the legendary pokemon of the games. That's not enough for you? How about the fact that they included the soundtrack from previous champions in the Pokemon World Championship event where you can battle champions/gym leaders from other regions? This game is the only one I've ever left on purely to listen to some of the soundtracks on it, they're all great and it's definitely one of the DS games with the best soundtracks. I'm sorry but if you rank the soundtrack of this game anything lower then a 10 we can no longer be friends.

Depth: 10

This game is nearly on par with the 2nd generation Pokemon games content wise. While these games didn't have a 2nd region to explore after beating the elite four and the champion it did have A LOT of side activities to engage in. These include but are not limited to: Pokemon World Tournament (a place where you can battle against champions/elite four members and gym leaders of other regions), White Treehollow/Black Tower (a place where you can battle a bunch of trainers for leveling and to get a special prize), Join Avenue (You get to manage your own Shopping avenue), lots of legendary Pokemon to seek out and quite a few optional areas you can explore, and that's not even counting trying to catch all Pokemon, battling against friends or replaying the game with a completely different teams as well as a few other fun features. Rest assured this game will keep you busy for quite some time.

Addictiveness: 10

I feel like it's pointless even explaining this, Pokemon games are addictive, unless you hate the formula of turn based Pokemon battles (why) and with this amount of content packed in, it is quite literally going to consume your life. I should know as I've clocked in around 500 hours into the game.

Story: 9

I did like the story of the 5th generation games a lot more then the others. For once the story wasn't just defeat the evil guys and become the champion. In fact the story in this game actually takes a bit more of a focus and has a bit more of a darker side to it (without losing the kid friendliness of Pokemon). While some people haven't liked this, I for one welcome it, and it does leave you thinking as well, are Pokemon being forced by humans to fight for them? Are humans brainwashing Pokemon? For once some of these things are just not fan theories but things the game actually acknowledges and adresses. The games also focus more on the legendary pokemon and lore of the game along with the characters which was something I've previously mentioned that I would like to see and happily welcomed. Though the story isn't a masterpiece, I did still like it a lot, more so then any other Pokemon game and I'm sad that this wasn't continued in Pokemon X and Y.

Difficulty: 6

This game is like most other Pokemon games never overly hard, the main game is fairly easy and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting through it but there are a few options for those looking for a bit of a challenge. Such as the battle subway or world championship tournament. There's also the newly introduced difficulty modes that become available after beating the game, white 2 getting an easy mode and black 2 a hard mode, both of these can be traded to the other version however and when activated will make pokemon battles a bit harder by altering levels and sometimes movesets and items as well. And there's also optional restrictions you can place such as the ones of different type of nuzlocke challenges or mono type runs and such.

Overall 9.2
Part of me want to give this game a perfect 10 however I feel that some few nitpicks (mainly the ones in the graphical department) hinder me from doing so. Also starting this game without having played the original Black and White will probably confuse a lot of players when it comes to the story and I would recommend that you do play one of them before hand. With all this said I would easily call these the best Pokemon games to date and everyone Pokemon veteran or not should get this game and experience it.

And as always tell me what you think of the review, if you agree with it or not, rate it, suggest other games for me to review and I hope you'll read the next one!

Great review! I don't know much about the newest Pokemon because I'm still playing the old games, but this review really makes me want to buy the newer games! Your remarks about the depth of the story came as a surprise to me. It's good to know that the story's not only about becoming the best Pokemon trainer but that there's something new added as well!

sillysoul : Thanks and yeah the story in the 5th generation games are in my opinion better then those of any other main series Pokemon game. I'd recommend getting the original Pokemon Black or White first though if you care about the story, but playing it without playing the original Black and White is fairly fine as well.

Reading your later reviews, it shows you've grown, this review was alright, but there was obviously room for improvement, if you're gonna review a game you don't put "Explaining is pointless", some people have never played Pokemon (believe it or not) and just saying "it's addictive trust me" shows laziness and makes you look like you were rushing and were un interested. Otherwise the review was alright on it's own, nice job. I've never played B2 (and dsemu emulator's lag makes the game unplayable.) But I;ve heard good things and while gen 3 is my favorite, gen 5 is probably number 3 it's a good generation and introduced a lot of good pokemon and triple battles! I enjoyed the review for the most part, thanks !

Cradily is love : Well in my defense I did actually mean that, besides this game is mainly intended for people who have played the original Black and White (which I will review sometime in the future) so I feel like it wasn't AS important to explain why. Still I see what you mean and I'll probably edit that.

All in all thanks for being honest with what you think, I feel it's important that people do critique my reviews if they see something that they think I should've done differently as it motivates me to try and get better. And I will be reviewing Gen 3 as well (though it's actually the generation I've played the least of) though maybe not until a later date as a kind of preparing for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire thing.

And the triple battles were cool but they're fairly uncommon assuming you don't play the triple battle mode in the battle subway or world tournament.
