Writing Game Guides on Vizzed is one of the best ways to earn Viz and Contribution Points and they're one of the best ways to help out the site. This thread will go over almost every type of guide you can write for the site as well as details on each.

Walkthrough: This is the most common form of Game Guide. Walkthroughs usually "walk the player through" parts of a game or through the entire game. Walkthroughs sometimes contain other types of guides within it and it some cases, it may contain all other guide types within it.

Character Guide: This usually gives the reader all the information they need regarding the main Character or Characters of a game. For a fighting game, it may be a list of all the combos of all of the players. For an RPG, it may go over the stats of each character. For a platformer, it may go into detail about all of the power-ups and how to use those power-ups to your advantage. The possibilities are endless as to what this type of Game Guide can cover.

Boss/Enemy Guide: This is pretty similar to a Character Guide except it's based on non Playable characters which you fight against. It can offer tips on the best way to take out the enemies/bosses or it can give stats of all the enemies/bosses.

Achievement Guide: This tells the user what Achievements or Trophies they can unlock and how to do so. This type of walkthrough only applies to modern gaming systems like the Playstation 4 or Xbox 360.

FAQ: Also known as 'Frequently Asked Questions', this type of guide is just a list of questions which you've written answers for. These are great for popular games, especially RPGs, where a lot of users are asking questions but not getting the answers they want (or at least not good answers).

Hints/Tips Guide: This type of guide is usually short but it offers quick and helpful hints and tips.

Lists/Charts: This is usually a list or chart of something within a game. In an RPG, it could be a list of obtainable items or attacks with brief details on how to earn or obtain them. This type of Guide can be easily plagiarized so we'll be making sure these types of guides aren't too simple and are exclusive to vizzed.

Maps: These are maps of a game and are usually in the form of an image but they can be text based too as long as the text is formatted properly.

If the type of guide you want to write isn't covered here, you can definitely still write it as long as the rules of the site apply to it and as long as it can be considered a Game Guide.

To submit a Game Guide to a game, you have to find its game page within the Retro Game Room or Video Game Room. From the game's page, scroll half way down the page until you see 'Strategy Guides, Walkthroughs and FAQs' section and then click 'Click here to Make a Strategy Guide for this game'.

The most CP you can earn for a single Game Guide is 999 CP. This means that Guides that are 10,000+ words wont earn you any extra CP so if you want to get full credit for massive Guides, try to break them down into separate guides (separate threads). For example, instead of making an all in 1 Walkthrough, break it into a General Walkthrough, Character Guide, Enemy Guide, Item Guide, etc.

If you have any questions regarding anything mentioned in this thread, feel free to ask in this thread.

I've got one. Referring to Lists/Charts, if there are many different items that can be obtained in a game, and many of each of the different items, it's best to make separate guides for each, right?

Hey guys. As you can tell by the newbie title I have only recently joined. I decided to do a guide for a game I played back in 89 on c64 called ATF. When I first typed it out I had used bold and italics plus icons. On top of that I thought making the colours alternate on the controls list would be easier for the eye to follow. However when I posted the thread none of those effects transferred over. I tried to edit but it didn't work. Is this due to me being a newbie or is this just a lack of knowledge on how to use the site tools? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have yourselves a nice day.
