Why did you originally sign up to steam? For me it was to try out DOTA 2. I'd been hearing about the game and wanted to try it, so after googleing it I found out I needed Steam. It turned out I was not one for DOTA 2, I find the camera controls bloody annoying. A while later I found AudioSurf when browsing the games and now that's basically why I keep coming back to Steam. So, why did you originally sign up to Steam?

The only reason why I signed up in steam in the first place was to buy all 3 Thief game (then I bought the fourth later), and then I've been searching for games and found some that were classics and some that has an interesting features (Rogue Legacy), and now....I found out that NetHack is going to be released there! Oh boy I just can't wait for it to even be greenlighted, I just can't really wait for it.

I signed up to Steam when the Steam forum was created. I was interested in what it was, so I decided to give it a try. I was on Steam for a whole 3 hours before I gave up on it though lol.

tgags123 : A whole 3 hours? You are a disgrace to this forum.

I joined steam because I really wanted to play Prop Hunt and when GMod went on sale I decided it was finally time to sign up for Steam.

I played one of the old counter-strike games at my friend's house, and I liked it, so I made a steam account. Little did I know that games actually cost money on there. Haha. Younger me was so silly.

I was actually told to get it by a couple of friends who wanted to be able to talk to me out of school. They told me we could chat on there, and that I could even get some games if I was willing to look (and spend money).
Shame most of the Free 2 Play stuff is MMO's..

Because I wanted to buy some of the games available on steam so I figured why not and went ahead and did it. With that said I usually don't play anything too amazing graphically as I'm using a laptop.

Before creating my own account I played on my dad's account since he had Sid Meier's Civilization 4. It was easy when I lived together with him and I could play whenever he wasn't on his computer. Later on I signed up myself and haven't regretted it one bit. The biggest reason was probably the awesome sales they have from time to time. Not to mention that all the games are relatively cheap. I have so many games on my account but sometimes it feels like I have nothing to play! And then I end up playing Skyrim *shrug*

I decided to sign up to Steam because I've been wanting to try out Team Fortress 2. Many people like to play this game and I wanted to know what the excitement was about. I like to play it now but I still need to practice more for that game.

I wanted to play Sleeping Dogs, but i couldn't get my hands on a CD copy. Eventually, i turned to Steam after hearing some promising stuff about it. Now, it's the only way i get my PC games.

I think my original reason was to play Team Fortress 2 with a friend because he needed help testing something out. The guy had helped me out with other stuff before, so of course I was willing to help him.

I signed up for steam, because it thought I could play really fun games for a cheep price. But as it turned out, my computer didn't run the games, so that sucked.

To be honest, I never wanted a steam account until I heard that Portal was being sold for free on the store a few years ago. When I learned this news, I immediately went "Where do I sign up?" and got myself a copy along with everything with it. Now I use it more often than not, communicating with my better friends than playing games.

I remember that I didn't even know what Steam was but I wanted to play Civilization 5 when it first came out in 2010. So I want and bought a hard copy at some store and started installing the game. What I didn't realize was that I was actually installing something called Steam and that I needed to make an account to play the game and also that I actually had to download the game, which was disappointing because my Internet was really slow at the time. So even though I was pretty much forced to sign up, I still use Steam on a daily basis after I realized what it was.

I had very little interest in PC gaming for the longest time. But verily, I was tempted. A game I had been eyeing and was interested in for a while was on sale, Trine. So I got the game. It wasn't for Steam, but it did get me into PC gaming. I had to carry the flash drive with the game everywhere at first, since the parents were hesitant to allow me to game on the home PC at first, so I had to game at school.

Then some Sonic games went on sale. I had been wanting to try out Sonic 4: Episodes 1 and 2 for a long time, and I thought the prices were to good to resist. I bit, but I was very wrong. The "Sonic Action Pack" went on sale on Amazon. I was hesitant at first since I didn't know if our computer could run Sonic Generations, but fortunately, I bit. 11 Sonic games for $9.99, including Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing, Sonic Adventure DX, and Sonic Generations, among others.

That's what got me into the world of PC gaming and Steam. I signed up to play a few Sonic games, and ended up into it for the long haul.

I was forced to in order to play Empire: Total War. Same kind of story as jack3604. I bought a physical copy, but still needed Steam to play. I was disappointed at first, but I'm a huge fan of it now.

soxfan849 :
Exact same game that forced me to install it.

Annoyingly a lot of cd games now just link to steam. Crusader kings 2 is blank, it just starts steam downloading it, makes the disk utterly pointless.

I signed up because of Team Fortress 2. I saw a couple of videos of it, and thought it was really fun looking. It was a couple of weeks after the uber update went up, so it was Free To Play, so I decided to sign up for it.

That's pretty much what got me into Steam. Everything else is branching off of Team Fortress 2, so yeah.
