So I got an email saying that I was placed on academic probation for reasons I do not wish to discuss, earlier today. I used my school's GPA calculator and my GPA actually came out to be a 2.03. I double-checked too. I do not know why I was placed because I thought a student's GPA had to be lower than a solid 2.00 for probation, according to the page one would reach when one Google's ''Hunter College Academic Probation'' and clicks on the first result.

So why was I placed on probation?
2.03 is NOT a 2.00 to me....!

As a person who had been on academic probation more than a few times, what I recommend is that you make an appointment to talk with a counselor at your school. These people's jobs are to help out students. Explain your situation and talk over any questions you have with them. They will have all the answers,  and can even help you plan out your education schedule to solve any problems that may have resulted in your probation.

Good luck!

It could be a warning for you to let you know that you're right on the borderline. I agree with AnotherInuFan and her advice. Talk to a counselor just to be on the safe side and see what you can do to resolve this problem.

Is 2.03 you cumulative GPA or your GPA for the current/this past semester? Academic probation can be triggered by either one. If something about your current performance is below expectations, you'll be set on probation. Also, if you got lower than a C or so in certain classes (not entirely sure if all schools do this) where you needed a higher mark, or a certain GPA among a certain set of classes.

Final possible reason I can think of is if perhaps you haven't finished a certain college requirement but have passed the suggested/allotted time frame which the school thinks you should have completed it. For example maybe it's your 5th semester and you were supposed to complete class Blah by the end of your second year. Then you'll have an advising notice (possibly probation) saying you need to finish such requirement.

But in any case it's best to email someone or make an appointment with your college's adviser. I haven't personally had any productive experiences with advisers but at least they can tell you what's up. Good luck!
