I'm not sure if this is in the right forum but anyway. :C. Wifi connection is dead today for DS and WII. WHY NINTENDO :C!? I'm very sad now. But at least there's wifi connection for 3ds and wii u. I can't do the GTS in Pokemon DS games anymore :C! Anyway, what do you think about this?

It's been announce a while ago that Nintendo wood soon permanently disable Wifi for all DS and Wii systems. I guess they feel that not enough people would be using connections on the older games and instead would use the newer ones. It's a bit sad considering Pokemon Black and White 2 have some of my favorite Wifi features.

I never really played online with my Wii. The only Internet access I need is watching Hulu and Netflix, and that is it. Anything I play on it is just is completely offline.

There was a thread about it a few weeks ago. I was pretty disappointed then when it was announced. I still am.

As it turns out, my Wii died two days ago. It just wouldn't turn on. Hopefully it's only a cable problem. =/ So while I'm sad about this loss, it's the least of my problems. =P

zanderlex : I really just assumed it was their way of strong arming players into buying new systems, honestly. It probably wouldn't hurt them to leave it up really, but it finally gives everyone a reason to buy the barely improved rehashed repeats of last generations Nintendo systems at full price. And no, I am not happy with Nintendo this gen. lol

This is actually a pretty big bummer for me. I was thinking of buying either a ds or Wii in the next week or two, so you can imagine how unhappy I am to hear that it finally happened.

Eirinn : It's probably going to cost a lot more than they want to spend because it's not like they can just turn on wifi for the amount of people that want it. I doubt any compamny would pay full price for anything if only 10 - 20% of customers will actually use it.

There's still a solution to you slow pokes that didn't reserve their Friend Code from Wiimm (one of the main Wii online hackers).

HERE IS A GUIDE ON HOW TO REVIVE YOUR WIFI PRIVILEGES: http://smashboards.com/threads/guide-connecting-to-brawl-wifi-post-wfc-shutdown.355374 (vizzed keeps breaking the link, but you should be able to fix it)

(It should work with any game except method 1.5 requires you to erase your save for I think all games but Brawl)

zanderlex : I actually have to disagree (respectfully), considering that the Wii sold over 101 million consoles, and the WiiU is on track to be one of the worst selling major consoles ever (and Nintendo's worst selling console ever. Note that the Virtual Boy was not a console), and only looks to sell around 10 million by the halfway point of it's life span (so it'll probably sell less than 1/4 of the consoles that the Wii sold). So we can see that 90% of Nintendo console customers have a Wii, but not a WiiU. Not to mention that many WiiU owners also use their Wii still. 90% of their customers were using the Wii's wifi services, and so Nintendo has effectively cut out 90% of their fanbase from the eShop and other features. If anything, it's costing them far more to not keep the Wii/ds wifi services up. If anything it indeed looks like a desperate last ditch effort on Nintendo's part to save the WiiU and boost it's sales. If you ever want to play Mario Kart and all of your other beloved console franchises with friends online (legally) you will now have no choice but to buy the new system. It's a big risk, but it's a business move I can respect.

Eirinn :

I think that the wii failed because there were no good games for more mature fans. And the wii motion controls were fairly annoying at times. I've played Mount & Blade, and you can swing your sword any direction that you want with a mouse much more easily than you can in Skyward Sword with those motion controls.

Motion controls I'm pretty sure killed it.

They aren't as bad as every one said, but . . . I miss pressing buttons. pressing buttons are so much better.

So they did it.

They killed Wifi for Wii and DS.

Honestly, I think that there is a bright future for the Wii U.

Yeah. . . I know. . . not much out there worth playing right now. . . but I'm patient. jUs waiting for the next Zelda titile, but if they dare use the Wind Waker graphic style. .. . .

Also. . . Falco is not confirmed for Smash bros U. . . . not sure what to make of that. . . could be bad.

http://supersmashbros.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Smash_Bros._for_Nintendo_3DS_/_Wii_U

If they get rid of falco and wolf. . . then we can kiss star Fox goodbye. ._.

The one title that I'm look out for on Wii U too.

I've never seen so many sony, and microsoft titles on a Nintendo console before. I mean seriously. . . for a while, I swear it's all they had for the Wii U.  :/

It's like I'm just waiting. . . .

for the good NINTENDO titles. . . . not Microsoft titles.

:/

I think I remember it being the same way for the Wii.

We had to wait forever for some good titles by Nintendo.

In fact. . . all that I can say I enjoyed on the Wii was Smash bros brawl. . . other then that, I just play countless gamecube titles. . . which Ironically half of them are Namco Museum collection disks and redone N64 titles. So yeah. . . .

I dunno. I think that with the Wii U, that Nintendo will do well, what with going back to the retro era so much. We may even get Might. no 9, the new megaman game to come out.

I hope that I will see some good games come out soon. :/

yeah, I managed to get a golem in soulsilver before it went out. I'm not AS upset about smash bros. though. Usually it takes forever to get in a group, and when I DO either everyone just taunts in front of each other or just doesn't move. Oh, they counter attacks and block and dodge... they just don't move :l

Sword legion : Well the problem with the WiiU isn't that it has no games, I mean it has the awesome new Mario Bros. games (Nintendo finally went back to their roots and gave us what we all wanted), and that alone would persuade me to buy any normal console. But then those games combined with Harvest Moon have convinced me to get a WiiU even, just...not yet. I couldn't afford it plus a PS4 anytime soon, and no way am I missing my PS4. lol

The thing killing the WiiU is that most people (much like you and I) are tired of the so-called motion controls. The Wii indeed sold over 101 million units, but the majority of those were sold early on while everyone was marveling at the concept of the controllers. It wore off quickly however, and nobody finds it impressive at all anymore. Basically, Nintendo struck gold when they stumbled onto the Wii "motion controls" gimmick, but that was a one time thing. Nintendo failed to realize that people just weren't really interested in the concept anymore. We now have a market of gamers that want straight up gaming.

Not to mention, the Wii was known for appealing to people that weren't even gamers. Nintendo, it's great that those people bought your last system, but this is a market for Gamers, and that's what you should focus on. So those non-gamers dished out $400-$500 on a game system last generation, but think about it: what non-gamer is going to turn around five or six years later and buy yet another $400-$500 system? Five maybe? lol

Nintendo needs to get their head back in the game, and give us another innovative console with real controllers, like the N64 was. They still have it in them, if they'll just try.

Sadly, I don't see a future for the WiiU at all, and honestly I hope it flops, and I hope it flops badly. Maybe that would wake Nintendo up finally. If it goes over in the end, they'll just release a Wii3 next generation, because a company will get away with stuff like this for as long as their fans will let them. Nintendo would see good sales on the WiiU as a green light saying "We need to make a third Wii console!". Hey, if you're making money, why change what you're doing? That's just dumb business, right?
