imamonster : Do you have a specific game system you want to play it on? If that isn't the case, I recommend Shantae for the GBC, it's a great game and very tough, but the game challenged me from the start and just enough so you didn't want to give up but keep moving on.

Pirates of Dark Water (action platformer), Tinhead, Rocket Knight Adventures, Sparkster, Socket, and Awesome Possum for the Sega Genesis. 

Knuckles Chaotix, Pitfall The Mayan Adventure, and Tempo for the Sega 32x.

Those are some good platformers to play. Awesome Possum kinda stinks but is fun to play every now and then.
