I remembered my Dad really enjoying this documentary about the Civil War when I was a kid. I recently started watching it and have been really entertained by it's complete documentation of the conflict. There have been moments when I was absolutely shocked by the carnage and the valor displayed by the soldiers of both the North and South.

Last night while watching it I laughed out loud at something that General William Tecumseh Sherman was supposed to have believed. He considered newspaper reporters to be worse than spies. He was convinced that if he killed them all there would be news from hell by breakfast.

If you are into history, documentaries or just like a good story, the first episode can be found here.

That actually sounds pretty interesting. I've always been really interested in wars, so I guess I'll have to check this out.

I'll maybe look at it later on my pc, since it not supported on my phone.
I'll be interested to see how factual it is, I've known American documentarys to be a little loose with the facts before.

thenumberone : It's a seven (eight) part series that was done in the late 1980s or early 1990s.  It's extremely accurate with constant reference to first party resources.  They use documents, journals, letters, orders, original quotes, and newspapers and so on.  It is a fair and accurate depiction of the United States's worst war and does not lend a view political.  There is no right or wrong.  It is an account on what happened and why it happened.  It also covers much more than battles.  Political views, the Jayhawks fighting in Missouri/Kansas, international trade and alliances.

It's fascinating, and gives a great perspective on the American mind from the early 1800s, through the war in the 1860s, and the results of the conflict.

It is perhaps one of, if not the, best documentary every produced about American history.  It's worth your time, Numberone.

Just finished this series and it was very moving. Honestly, I'm at a loss of words to further describe it. Again, I definitely recommend it to any that have shown interest.

Thebiguglyalien :
thenumberone :

warmaker : That's a pretty accurate description, with the exception of there being nine episodes.
