OK, for those who don't already know the "glass ceiling" is a term used in business basically saying that it keeps females and minorities from getting high up positions.

My question for you all is do you think it still exists within company's today? And also do you think it exists on Vizzed?

Me personally I think it still somewhat exists in company's today, but it's not as apparent as it used to be. As for the second part of the question does it exist on Vizzed? It's hard to say looking at the staff page it seems dominantly male so I'd say yes.

Thanks for reading and have a great day on Vizzed!

It depends on the field. Professions like Civil Engineering would always be biased in favor of the guys due the works' nature. It demands a lot of physical labor specially if you aren't a high ranked engineer in-charge of management but instead are in-charge of direct field work.

As for vizzed, the population is mostly males in the first place (it's a gaming forum after all), so it's a given that they'd also dominate the staff positions. However despite all of that, we females aren't frowned upon and are given fair chances to get high positions here on vizzed.

I agree completely with Juliet.  Females on vizzed are given every opportunity as males. Even the idea of there being discrimination makes me giggle a little.  Vizzed is one of the most fair sites I know, and I highly respect the leadership. More men are gamers than women, however, and most of the population IS female, so it makes sense that statistically speaking..... more staff would be male.

I don't think the glass ceiling exists in AMERICA, so much as people say it does. In other countries though, it certainly does.

I think there is less of this bias today because of laws and such, but i do believe that it is still there. There are a ton of people who simply will choose somebody over somebody else because of their race or gender. I don't think that really happens here on vizzed, it's just that there are much less females.

No, I really don't think there is all that much bias today in that kind of thing anymore. It has really gone really far down.

Vizzed, absolutely not.

Sort of. There is a small glass ceiling still there, but I want it to be gone completely. I really do t think that it is fair to have everything be like that, I want it changed.
As for vizzed, no. They have plenty of power, jobs.

Yes, it still exists in some businesses. Sadly, that will never change. Racism will always exist (stupid as it is), but we can help it become more and more scarce. There will always be white men that own businesses and refuse to promote black people, and there will always be black men that won't promote white people. The same goes for Hispanic, and any other race, and for the sexes.

To make matters worse, I see supposed "anti-discrimination" campaigns on TV, that are actually promoting discrimination. The target of these campaigns vary, but the ones I see most are discriminatory against men. Second I see ant-white campaigns calling themselves anti-racism campaigns. I literally saw a half hour special on TV a few weeks ago talking about how evil white people were (and it was indeed hosted by a white person).

It is literally impossible to be more opposed to racism than I am (in fact two of my best friends are black, including my best friend ever, and I actually proposed to a black girl once...obviously she shot me down, but that's beside the point. lol), but this fuss over racism that's been arising has only served to make it more of an issue. We now have organizations that help anyone but white people, and others that help anyone but men. I hate racism, indeed. And I realize that all races suffer from it, and both genders suffer from discrimination. I pray one day it stops completely, and I'm going to work my best to that end.

That said, I don't believe that either is nearly the problem it's made out to be these days, and fairness and equality is closer than ever.

As for Vizzed: No, it doesn't exist here at all, thankfully. If it did, I would have left long ago. In fact, unless I'm terribly mistaken, I've seen Female Global Mods on here before, and you can't do much better than that. Also I've seen several different races and nationalities make it to staff positions. So Vizzed is definitely a fair site to all.

I think it still exists in some places today but not on Vizzed. I see it is mostly male but that is just because there are more males than females on Vizzed and maybe more male people apply for these staff positions. In other businesses today I think it has decreased but it is still there some people just do not recognize they are not giving the female people a chance.

Well, of course there's more male staff members than female ones on Vizzed. I'd say 65% of people on Vizzed are male (Or at least, pretend they are), so i guess it's kinda obvious that most of the staff is male. But i doubt there's any sort of discrimination here. I believe there are chances for both males and females. Well, that's what i like to think at least... Maybe i'm wrong? I doubt it.

As for the "real world" (eww), i guess it still exists. The difference is that is way, waaaaaaaaaaaay less "visible" than in the past. The whole "
men are better than women on this, and women are better than men at this" doesn't really exist anymore (with very few exceptions I GUESS). But "glass ceiling" will exist probably forever. Not everyone thinks the same way, and while most people already put behind the though that "Women are inferior to men", not everyone did it.

Basically, as long as there are more men in higher "positions" than women, "glass ceiling" will continue to exist. It's never going to be like it used to be though.

Coinciding but condescending the ideas of the other members on this sit, I feel as if we've advanced to the point in society in which we do not discriminate by race or gender anywhere as bad as we were, and its sure that the glass ceiling is still there, but its incredibly thin.

There is no possible reason for such a thing to happen in modern society where a female or anybody else could be discouraged or left out of opportunities for success in their careers.

Universally, companies are forced to comply. Forced isn't a pleasant term, but there's no way around it.

As the user above me had said, Vizzed has a low amount of female staff. Before one would say "OH NO DISCRIMINATION SOMEBODY ARREST DAVID", we'd first look into the demographics of the specific industries they work in, and the general interest in which the person of that minority has.

Stereotypes do in fact exist in traditions and culture. It's more likely for you to find an Italian man interested in the culinary world than it would to see an Islamic man there, so why cry out that there's no great Islamic CEOs or Chefs involved in the industry. This is not caused by " discrimination" or a glass ceiling of any sort. Its simply caused because what they were raised in and ultimately what they took interest in within their formative years, caused by largely their culture and what people in those specific demographics naturally enjoy.

So for that, on Vizzed, females are generally not raised in an environment where they play video games, and if they are, it just typically doesn't come into their frame of mind to be interested in it just due to the amount of things made for their demographic that occupy that area in which they'd take interest in. Meaning that ultimately, not nearly as many women globally will take interest in video games, much less retro video games (not only because of age, but general information/research they'd be likely to do) in contrast the amount of men that would enjoy them.

Its beyond obvious that on Vizzed, the owners are all a very young age, and have been raised in a society in which discrimination is largely a thing in the past, or heavily unliked or thought of as bad by society. New companies and younger people will detest the concept of discrimination, and its just incredibly unlikely in this day and age for something like that to happen.

All in all, I hope this wasn't too crude or mean of a post.
