I have a preference (though slight) to Fire Emblem. Final Fantasy gets you in through its storyline and gameplay overall, but Fire Emblem really gets you thinking on strategy without sacrificing the story and gameplay, and in my opinion, a game that makes you think about what to do and when wins out over a gripping story.

In all seriousness, I've beaten Sacred Stones on Hard difficulty without losing a single unit or missing a recruiting. You really think that's an easy task?

Yes, that is so true. FF is longer and the serise is bigger FF: about 14 right? FE:11 and the new DS one (Shadow Dragon) Is just a remake of FE 3. FE does use stadegy, because thats what the game is about. Final Fantasy, on the other hand is a great game to play when you are bored and don't want to get a headache .

FE, is a turn based fantasy based stradgey game. You have a main character (a lord) and along the way of your chapters, you gain more characters, knights,paladins,archers,shamans,summoners, (fighting,magic and archery) Plus pegusus knights and horse men. Each character has there own name and backround. If they die, they are gone forever, so don't lose them. It cannot really be explained because there is so much in that game. You will have to play it. Vizzed, has FE gaiden, but it is VERY different from the new ones.

I'd have to say Fire Emblem. Final Fantasy is fun but there's a lot more thinking involved in Fire Emblem(not to mention a lot more resets :p). A story is important but so is a challenge.

I havn't played enough Fire Emblem games to say for certain, but I would say it is probally the better series of the two as it seems more complex and thought out.
