So, this week, I decided that it was time to withdraw from my English class. The class was fun, and I liked the teacher, but the style of the teaching was not something that I really liked about the class. I also happened to fail the midterm because I have not been in class for a few meetings. My GPA will end up rising 40 points because of this, so that's okay I guess, but I have to take the class again next year.

This time, I am going to pick an English class that has a topic that I can actually relate to for an entire semester.

So I am guessing this class is too hard or too boring for you. o:

It may have been a good idea to withdraw in some terms, good luck on this class next year!

Black Bot : *AHEM* In the 2nd sentence of my post, I said the class was fun. The class was very easy too, but I'm guessing that there was too much of this easy work.

zanderlex : I read your post though, I admit I am usually bad at skimming through stuff, I'm so sorry.

But still good luck on your next term, it is still you only failed one subject as I did mention in another thread you created.

I'm glad it worked out for you.

I, on the other hand, couldn't do such a thing. My parents would kill me if I lost tuition money like that. lol

I know that some colleges have a 'shopping period' for classes. It might be helpful to sit-in on a few to see which one you like the best.

EideticMemory :
Well, you don’t actually lose tuition. As long as you are a full time student with at least 4 classes, you pay the same amount, regardless of how many classes you have. I am taking 6 classes, so even if I did not take that class in the first place, I would still pay the same amount.

zanderlex, what kind of a GPA system are you guys on?  O.o  A student who makes all A's here gets a GPA of 4.0.... so I'm totally unfamiliar with one that would raise by 40 points. lol Also, since you haven't completed the course, how will it affect your GPA at all?

Finally... I'm not judging your choice or putting you down for it, but I do want to give you a small piece of advice, if I may.

Not EVERY teacher is going to teach to your liking. In fact, the chances of a teacher NOT teaching to your liking... is greater than a teacher being able to reach you with ease.  I don't advise dropping a class JUST because you don't like the teaching style. If you can challenge yourself to get through a class you might not be comfortable with, you'll become a stronger learner with a wider variety of skills and abilities to achieve.

Also, every time you drop a class, you're just pushing your completion date further away.

Singelli : 40 points as in points, such as right now may or may not be 1.35, and it will go up to 1.76. For 40 points. Also, it turns out that... I withdrew after missing the class twice, after the very next class block, the entire class itself was cancelled because by then, jut 3 students have not withdrawn.

Also, it doesn't really push completion, as long as I do uhhhhhhh. 5 semesters of 5 classes and 3 of 6 classes. That could be part of why I did bad because I tried to take 6 classes this semester instead of 5 like I did last time.

yeeesh.  If only three students had not withdrawn, what does that say about the teacher? That must be pretty bad.  I'm surprised they left the class open as long as they did.

And about the 40 points thing... ah... I was assuming you meant 40 as in a whole number.

catbert225 : That doesn't sound easy. It sounds like they don't know how to teach at your school...

zanderlex : What was his way of teaching, if i may ask. Was it really odd. Or did he just not like the Mets?

mourinhosgum : Well, it was kind of weird. At the end of every class, we had to click a link to go to the reading that we were actually expected to read and talk about. At the start of every class we had to come in and make a list of 10 things. Some days the list would be for music, other days it would be fears, other days it would be family member names. Our entire midterm grade was just based on our life history. Every class we had to write a quick thing about our life and then make a little journal thing about it. There was also a bunch of other things as all that we were forced to do.

The schooling system is a bit different here where I live so we're not able to withdraw from a class even if we wanted to. There are specific courses that I need to take in order to get my certificate plus, a set of optional courses we can choose from. It's great to hear that everything worked out in the end. I hate it when a class isn't what I expected in the beginning. In my opinion a difficult and time-consuming class is better than such that requires no extra effort from the students, since I personally tend to get lazy at such occasions. But if I could choose I'd definitely dropped out from some of my classes. I have the final exam in 'Jurisdiction and IT-contracts' tomorrow and it's the most boring and uninteresting class I've taken so far.

Yeah, I wish we could simply withdraw from class that far in. We have a requisite two weeks where we can withdraw or switch out of the classes without any sort of penalties. If you want to do so later, it ends up on your transcript, and it looks pretty bad. That is only saying for a few weeks after the requisite period. If you go, say, a month into the class, and you decide that it would be a good idea to drop the class, seeing as you either dislike it, or are unable to perform well in the class, you cannot drop it. I would drop statistics if I could. I mean, I like my teacher and all, but I cannot understand anything that is going on in the class, whatsoever.
