Every single character in any piece of fiction always fall into little things we writers call "archetypes" - pre-defined loose descriptions. It doesn't matter how bad someone tries to make their character(s) unique, he/she/they will always fall into one of three most well-known and basic archetypes: Heroes, villains or "Average Joes"/Common people/nobodies. I suppose no description is neccessary for them.

With this said, I want to ask you vizzers what is your favorite basic character archetype. I myself love villains - particularly of the manipulative, con-man kind. In second place for me comes the average joes (particularly the ones with a mean streak), because writing and reading slice-of-life stories with a touch of fantasy is always interesting. My passion for these kinds of character originated/flourished as I read Slightly Damned and 1984, which inspired to make most of my own characters based off these ideas.

Since I have to choose from what's here, I am going to go with heroes, but what I really like the most is villians that have a change of heart and become good. I feel that makes for a better story.

I personally like the vigilante type. I like how they determine their own sense of justice. They still do what needs to be done to save others but also cause a little chaos along the way. Like one of my favorite comics series and movie, Watchmen. Rorschach is one of my favorite characters of all time. His mask is awesome. It has black and white blots that move around. He depicts life as black anus white. They need him in a D.C. game soon. He would be an interesting character to use and have a more extensive background and future. Anyway, He is still considered so a hero, so yeah.. hero it be.

Personally I prefer the villain approach especially if its the gundam approach where it focuses on the heroes and the villains and tells both of their story's sadly you don`t see this often in current anime which is a bit of a let down if I must say.
