It is nice to see someone who appreciates the classics. I almost fell over dead when I made a Dracula reference, and half of my students weren't aware of who Dracula is. We are getting to the point to where when kids hear 'vampire' they think of Edward, Bill Compton, etc over thinking Dracula. Sad times.

The old classic "The Mummy" is a good one for that era. If you liked Frankenstein, then you might like the Bride of Frankenstein. Also a very tragic theme.

Yes, Karloff. Couldn't remember since it has been so long since I have watched that. You can see the whole movie on YouTube.

Another pretty good one is a more recent. It is a movie called "Let Me In". It is technically a vampire movie, but very different. I figured if you like Frankenstein, you might like this. Frankenstein was a monster who was cooped up because people wouldn't be able to not fear him.
In this movie, a 12 year old kid who is bullied all the time befriends a mysterious 12 year old girl who turns out to be a vampire (that isn't really a spoiler, as it becomes apparent pretty quick to the watchers). The entire mood of the film is very dark and pretty depressing, but it is very well done. It is one of those tragically beautiful stories. You can also find it on YouTube if you type "Let Me In 2010 full movie".

Side note, it is actually an American adaptation of the British movie "Let The Right One In" made in 2008. I have not seen that one, so can't tell you if it is better.

But anyway, it is a more recent 'monster movie' that isn't all about killing and gore. A few do get killed, but that is not at all the center of the film. A lot like the older movies.

I love classic horror films. Some of the best are invasion of the body snatchers (1956), the wolfman (1941), frankenstein meets the wolfman (1943), house of dracula (1945), dr. cyclops (1940), the blob (1958), and the all time king of zombie movies night of the living dead! Night of the living dead is really easy to watch online (didn't have a copyright) and also easy to buy.

Cactuar : Maybe I don't know yet. Modern monster movies for me is hit or miss.
GenesisJunkie : I have not watched invasion of the body snatchers yet. Heard about it in Monster Madness. (By James Rolfe you know him) By the way if you like old horror movies definitely check out  Monster Madness. Just recently rewatched The Wolfman and Frankenstein meets the wolf man great movies. House of Dracula was that crossover between all of the famous monsters right?  there also was house of Frankenstein which I did watch. I have not seen the blob yet. And Dr Cyclops was a campy film right? Again I heard about it in monster madness. Night of the living dead man. I have probably watched it about 20 times. The 1990 remake of night of the living dead was ok.
rcarter2 : The mummy was public domain? Wow did not know that. I sometimes watch movies illegally sorry........ Let Me In? Sounds pretty good in your description. Thanks for the suggestion I'm gonna watch it today. Also a reccomendation for you The Old Dark House.

If you have me-tv (I think its a basic channel that everyone has) you should watch Svengoolie. He plays classic horror films. On commercial break he tells jokes or trivia from the movie, very good show for watching classic horror films.

imamonster : Oh sorry. I always assume that everyone lives where I do.

I really forgot about Monster Madness. I need to go back and watch some of those. I don't remember who made Dr. Cyclops but its a really neat film. It has a mad doctor who sends out for some more people and shrinks them. That is as fare as I will get into the story, I don't want to give away anything. The only other thing I am going to say is the cat scene is awesome!

I never really get to watch monster movies because they rarely come on tv. But here are some recommendations of movies I watched recently

Cloverfield
This one of those "found footage" style movies. You rarely even see the monster. It has a whole lot of action. I do like It brings you to a first person prospective and gives you the feeling of what It would be like if you were in a situation like this. Cloverfield is a really good movie. You should check this out.

Super 8
I don't know if this is just a standalone movie, but this looks like a prequel to Cloverfield. It takes place maybe around the 50s or 60s. It doesn't have the found footage style. The main characters are not adults, they are kids. This one is a really good movie.

So, these are some of the recommendations of monster movies that I think are good. I really want to see the new Godzilla movie. I hope that will be good.
