In competition with the PC's Oculus Rift, Sony has recently revealed a VR headset for the PS4.

It's basically a pair of glasses with a screen inside. When you look at it, the screen is 70 inches wide, and is in full 3D

The headset emits a blue light that gets tracked by the Playstation Camera so you can look around in full motion while playing first person games like Call of Duty or Elder Scrolls Online, or even third person games such as Uncharted or Infamous.

Here's to hoping that some developer remakes Sword Art Online without the whole microwave thing.

What are your thoughts on Sony's new product? When do you think we'll see it on store shelves, and at what cost?

Not only will you have access to your PS4 at home from your PS Vita at wifi hotspots, but you can even do one better.
Just picture getting a big ol battery, using it with the PS4's power supply, keeping the PS4 in your backpack, stop at a place, drop the camera in front of you, and play full sized games on the go in 3D.

That's... omigodthatsawesome. That's seriously cool! Virtual Reality PS4 games? That are portable?

I only have the PS2 and the PSP, but I know that Sony has some totally awesome stuff. Nintendo? They have motion games. Microsoft? They have better motion games. Sony? They have awesome VR and portable PS4s and the ability to connect portable consoles to your TV and computer and a whole bunch of other futuristic stuff.

But I wonder how much it will cost?

Are you serious??? I just posted that I can't wait for Oculus Rift to come out and now I see this!! If that's really what it's going to look like, SONY has officially blown my mind, though it's probably going to cost a lot more than Oculus Rift.

alexanyways : Haven't we seen something like this before..?

This sounds like an interesting, albeit unimaginative idea. I think I'll give it a try some time and then pass on it.

Tails the Fox : The idea for the Virtual Boy didn't have the technology to back it up. The big difference now is that the technology has caught up with the idea of VR.

Oculus Rift and this are both exciting and I want to try them. IF, and only IF, either one works correctly, I can see myself spending more time and money on current generation games then I currently do.

...this might be the closest thing I'll see to a Holodeck in my lifetime...

So it is already proven that sitting too close to the TV is bad for your eyes. And even more so, prolonged focus on something that is less than a foot away from you is also very strenuous on your eyes. So the response is to put a light emitting television screen 3 inches from your eyes so kids can focus on that for however many hours they decide to play. The concept is cool. It sounds fun. But does Sony have some partnership with the optometrists in which they give them more business by giving more kids bad eyesight?

alexanyways : I'm sure that some people might buy this, I haven't seen any ads for It yet but after reading this thread I might check Into It lol. I wonder If one day a company will make a video game that projects a pic on all your walls and ceilings along with a modified power gloves haha.
