Great song! I don't believe I've ever heard a Hank William Sr or Jr song that I didn't like. The grandson - I'm not so sure about. Country isn't really something that I crave listening to but I can enjoy the oldies, if that makes any sense.

When I clicked on that link, I saw "The Very Best of Hank Williams". Listening to it now.

I also enjoy Johnny cash - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU5CMkNuidA&feature=player_detailpage#t=950 (Warning:adult situations) - this song has an important message at the end.

Until recently, I seem to go through phases with my music, and while I was in Alaska, I listened to nothing but country, for the most part.  I was a young teenager at that point, and country wasn't exactly popular with my peers. However, from that craze, I became focused on big band jazz, classical old fashioned rock, and then worship/gospel.  I'm pretty much stuck on worship and gospel now that I've had the radical change in my life (allowing Christ into my life as my Savior), but sometimes I'll listen to other music for memory's sake or just as a refreshment.  I'm wondering if anyone has made the same observation I have....

It seems to me like nearly all genres of music change.  If you listen to hip hop, jazz, rock..... all of them change.  Listening to those music genres now yields a whole selection of new songs I didn't hear as a young teenager.  However, this does NOT seem to be true with country!!!  If I listen to a country station, I feel like I'm listening to the same songs I listened to all those years ago.  I KNOW new country songs are being made, but I next to never hear them.  It makes me feel like country music never changes.... do either of you (or anyone else) feel this way?

thephantombrain :

Oh yes! Johnny Cash is the greatest. I always thought of him more as a country musician than a rock musician.

Hank Williams jr form is just boring mediocre stuff. First and the third have the attitude I want to hear in Country.

Singelli

I remember us having this discussion before at some another thread but what kind of stuff did you listen to in your Alaskan days?

As for your other predicament... It is for me so different since I listen to so much other music that listening to country is like a breath of fresh air. But there are so much different types of it too from bluegrass to pop that I would think there would be something to everybody even if the fundamentals of it will never change, so to speak. Maybe it is the same with all types of music?

I actually like a lot of country songs. I cant really post any because I don't actually have any, I just enjoy it when it crops up.
Miles better than pop anyway.
The only one I actually have (I think) is this

As you already know I am a big Hank Williams III fan. I like the first Hank not a huge fan of Jr though. Outlaw Country is the only other genre of music I listen to (Punk being the main thing I listen to). Outlaw Country is just the real deal, no fake non since, no big music labels needed. Some bands I like are David Allen Coe, Hank III, GG Allin and the Criminal Quartet, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson.

GenesisJunkie :

Willie Nelson? Well to be honest, he did not do that much for me. Atleast no song ever did that I ever heard? You wanna educate me on some of his good stuff? Would be much appreciated.

Here is a local song about trucking. My pa and grandpa were truckers. You get the point maybe, even if you don't understand the lyrics.

Brigand : His songs are no where near as rough as the rest of the Outlaw bands but I really like his song You are always on my mind. I like him as a person more than most of his music.

I had no clue that other countries had country music, I though it was something that was just done in the south of the US. It was really really odd to hear a country song that was not in English.

I really didn't start listening to country intill pretty recently. I heard that terrible stuff on the radio and said "if that is what country music is, I want no part of it." but that stuff isn't country. Thanks to GG Allin and the CQ I found out what county is and it got me turned onto Outlaw music.

GenesisJunkie :

One of the reasons I started this thread was to hear country I had not heard before and perhaps also from other countries.

Perhaps this song is familiar to you. Both by David Allen Coe and by GG.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl-b_F-AqBk

So I Implore to every country music fan, especially if you have some obscure stuff. Lets hear it y`all.
