I don't how many people read books here on Vizzed but I know I'm one of them. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for post apocalyptic novels or even series. I have found it to be a really good genre that I enjoy reading as I am currently reading "World War Z". My friend recommended that I also read "The Road" after. If anyone has any recommendations on these kind of books feel free to give me suggestions as I am open to trying any kind of book of this genre.

There's "Metro 2033," it's set in a post nuclear warfare world. So society was driven underground due to the radiation from the nuclear bombs. You follow Arytom, a male born in the post warfare world, in his adventure through the Moscow Metro system in an attempt to save people in it. The book was originally written in Russian but an official English translation has been made. It's worth a read in my opinion, very thick though.

Chindogu :

Oh man, I wanted to recommend this... But wait, was Artyom a German born? I don't ever remember it being said there. I thought he did not know much of his parrents and apearently I guess atleast his mother spoke Russian.

And one thing I am very sure it was not written originally in German. Or was it? By a Russian author in German? Did I really miss this much?

About the novel.

About the author.

I read the English translation of it. It is one of the best books I read in ages. Thought provoking, sombre and yet very entertaining and highly addictive.

(The video game version sucked but give it a go if you want a generic third person shooter.)

I used to read quite a bit back in the day but got away from it (not sure why). One book that I really enjoyed that was set in a post-apocalyptic future was "The Postman" by David Brin (1985). If you've ever seen the movie (1997), then you only know half the story from the book.

I can't really decide if you could consider it as Post-Apocalyptic (I would explain why, but that would ruin it), but The Taking is an amazing book, and one of the best I've ever read. I strongly recommend it.

The Postman the book book is many times better than that Kevin Costner movie.  It's an excellent read.

Alas, Babylon is a good book.  It starts with a nuclear war in like the mid 80's or so and follows a town of survivors in Florida that had the winds in their favor so the fallout doesn't get too close.  It was one of those books they "made" us read in school but I got so into it I finished it way before we were supposed to.  It has looting, radiation poisoning, road warriors, and has all the stuff a good post nuke book should have.

Would I Am Legend count? Because I love the book and that's the one I am reading now. I never saw the movie though.

zanderlex : Yea, that would count. I think that one is with mutants or something. I haven't read it but I remember someone telling me about it.

MoblinGardens : You really haven't read it? have you at least seen the movie? The movie is pretty big considering it stars Will Smith. Other than that, somebody told you about it because it's a good book so I suggest you give it a try.

zanderlex :

Yeah and it was a remake. But I never saw the original one. (Last man on earth, if I remember right.)  Did anyone here? The Will Smith movie was a... Will Smith movie. And supposedly not much to do with the original book. Which I have not read.
