When you play do you change your character names? And if you do what kind of names you give to them?

I rename my characters every time I start a new save. It was really nice surprise that you can rename your Aeon's in Final fantasy X.
Sometimes if I'm lazy to think some good names, I just pick names from some other games or tv series, movies etc.

Here is one example of my "custom names".

Final Fantasy VI:

Terra: Azira
Locke : Wulf
Edgar: Redos
Sabin: Gosha
Shadow: Wraith
Cyan: Daron
Gau: Vex
Celes: Olivia
Setzer: Matloc
Strago: Quar
Relm: Erin
Mog: Cero
Umaro: Neroka
Gogo: Paopa

Oh no....I never do that not unless if they don't have their own names, that I will give them a name. The ones that do have names I don't bother changing it. As their games are good enough as it is. ^-^

I always name the main character of any RPG "Leggy", after myself, simply because I'm the one playing the game.

If I get to name other party members, I usually go down a line, and choose names of friends.

Like, in the current RGR Competition, for the catch em all thing in Pokemon Dark Rising, I named the main character "Leggy", and named the rival "Davideo"

In Final Fantasy, the same logic applies. In Final Fantasy X though, I left the names alone. Aeons arent the same.

Usually the original names are really good, and when I play first time that game... I keep the original names, but it gives a new feeling of the game when you name them the way you like it. And in FFX when you rename the Aeon's it's like giving them a nickname just like in Pokémon, you don't call your dog by "Dog"?

But there is times when I still keep the original names, like when I today started to play Final Fantasy VII again.. I kept the old names, expect I changed Aeris to Aerith and REDXIII will be just Red.

Although I've only made one profile on a Final Fantasy game, I give odd names to characters from other RPGs. I used to name everyone either "Dragon" or "Ziggy," but I'm done with that because those are really dumb names for people. I can't remember what I named Cloud Strife in FF7, but I know I named Barrett "Dejotaj," who happens to be a user here (I named him Dejotaj because I was bragging to Dejo that I was beta testing FF7... of course, my beta test ticket didn't actually cover that so a staff got angry at me) and I named Tifa Lockhart "sexy." Why? Because I was already getting really bored of the game and I just decided to mess around.

In my Pokemon Sapphire game cartridge, I kept most of the Pokemon's names the default, but I changed some. My starter, Treecko (now Sceptile), I named Killer. It fits him well now since he's a Sceptile and he's around level 85 and has a beast attack stat and around 300 maximum HP. It's embarrassing, though, because this was the first Pokemon game I fully completed and he was the only Pokemon I actually trained. So there's your reason of his power. I named my Wingull "FLYHOG" and one of my Zigzagoons a name I can't remember, but it was spelled wrong. I also found a Skarmory while collecting ash from the volcano after encountering dozens of Spindas and I figured that Skarmory was really rare (since I already encountered a huge amount of Spindas), so I named him "RARE!!"

I remember when my brother first got his Pokemon Diamond game. He named all of his Pokemon Star Wars names, so for example one of his Pokemon was named "Darth Vader" and another one (which, if I remember correctly, was one of those bird Pokemon) "Han Solo."

I don't name them when they have plot importance (basically FF 2 and up, except 3). But for FF1, it's usually..
Lodz/Darkz-Warrior (after myself).
Dyro-B.Mage (After my best's friends screen-name).
Amanda-W.Mage (After one of my best friends.
Alan-Monk (After one of my best friends as well..)
For FF3, it's basically the same.

I used the default names always. Except Aerith got to be Aerith instead of Aeris in FFVII.
