I was trying to think of ways to keep people from digging through your castle wall in any kind of battle tournament in Minecraft, and I came up with a lot of ideas. Take cobblestone, build your castle wall out of it, then place wood behind the cobble stone, and then place more cobble stone behind the wood, then you have a three layer thick wall, and if they aren't expecting it, they will have to punch through the wood. That will slow them down a little, but not much. Maybe it will give you enough time to find and kill them though.
Then, I came up with this.
Why not use obsidian instead?
Well, obsidian takes a while to mine, (30 seconds with a diamond pickax) but how do you get so much obsidian for this second layer of you castle? Well, here's a trick that you can remember about placing obsidian, without having to spend hours mining it.
Wherever you want to place an obsidian block, dump a lava spawnblock, and then dump water next to it.
Presto- instant obsidian- with out having to mine it.
Make molds using cobblestone to keep the lave from getting everywhere.
Create safe paths to the giant lava pools in the Nether and take LOTS of buckets with you. You can take up to about 30 - 40 lava buckets with you per trip, right?
Oh, and don't for get to place obsidian under your castle's wool carper floor, or else people will dig their way in!
Was that neat or what?
