Although Girantina is my favorite, I also like Yvetal, Jirachi, Shaymin, Lugia, Mew and Vinichi.

My favorite legendary Pokemon is Giratina. It's a freakin ghost dragon centipede, it has great base stats, it has three great abilities, and the backstory is pretty dang awesome. Giratina lives in an opposite dimension of ours, and he actually has the ability to create portals to that dimension!

It's no surprise Mew and Giratina are two popular votes so far.

My favorite legendary is Rayquaza because of its concept and design, introduced in Ruby and Sapphire versions. At that time, I remember playing Ruby and not even knowing there was a third legendary besides the two mascots Groudon and Kyogre.

And I love the fact Rayquaza's the only true sky dragon--a Flying type legendary dragon, which sets it apart from others that usually have elements, i.e. Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Zygarde, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, etc. But with that comes 4x weakness to Ice type moves. Reasonable weakness since its so powerful with 150 base Attack and Sp. Attack. Common builds for him are Life Orb Adamant/Jolly Dragon Dance or Swords Dance. But bottomline is: don't let a Rayquaza set up in uber matches.

I just don't know about you, but I surely have to Love Lugia and probably the reason why I like this Legendary Pokémon so much is because he was probably the last Pokémon in Pokémon Crystal I needed in order to get all of the Pokémon in that game. Plus, I didn't use any high rate catching poke balls for the Battle and literally it took so long to do, but finally, I got him. I don't know why, but there is some sort of good vibe that I get everytime I see Lugia that doesn't deny my certain love for this Pokémon.

TheAdventurer : My first Pokemon game was some foreign version (can't remember but it wasn't Japanese or English) of Pokemon Silver. Lugia's one of my favs as well. Personally, I think the best fight in all the Pokemon movies was Lugia vs the 3 legendary birds in the 2nd movie. And gotta love the dynamic of it being Psychic/Flying yet also associating with water--learning Hydro Pump in-game and classified as the Diving Pokemon species in the Pokedex.

I know that this is cliché, but Mewtwo is the one we can ALL relate to. Whether it was first gen and it was the best, or second gen where it was still awesome to have, or fourth gen with the gold and silver remakes and it was outshined by Arceus, to the new generation of kids playing X and Y where Mewtwo is once again top of the class and more diverse than ever. Arceus, bow before your new king!

Mecha Leo : Yeah, I'd put Mewtwo up in my top 3 favorites along with Rayquaza and Lugia. Loved using him in Super Smash Bros Melee back in those days. I really don't understand the popularity of Lucario and the fact that he replaced Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

One other interesting thing I find is that Mewtwo comes before Mew in the official Pokedex, standing at #150. It would've seemed more logical to me for Mewtwo to be #151 and the more obscure Pokemon in the first generation, as opposed to Mew. But then their roles would've changed in the game and Mew would actually be legal to catch, whereas Mewtwo's availability would require an Event instead. That would be interesting but Mewtwo is far more useful.
