So, for a long time now I have wanted to record Pokémon games and put them up on my youtube channel. What would you guys suggest I get for equipment? I want something that can record the screen (kind of like share screen with skype) and record my live commentary at the same time, or maybe keep the two separate and put them together later. Also id like to be able to control how much of the screen can be seen so that it's just the game being shown. Please help , I do realise that there is an embedded recording device with the game if we chose to do so but id like to know about anything that is free that may be better. thank you for your time.

I suggest looking through the free programs at cnet's download.com. I have found many awesome free programs using their site. Try searching for "video capture" and also be sure to read the reviews/descriptions because these will usually tell you if the program can do what you want. Remember, you can sort out the pay programs from the free programs.

If you decide to download a program from there be sure to read the installation wizard screens VERY CAREFULLY or you will end up getting one to three crap add-on programs installed too.

Hmm... I've always been using ezvid nowadays. It's a free video capture program that's mainly made for youtube. You can even upload your video straight from the software to youtube without saving it first in your own PC.

OBS (Open Broadcast Software) can be used to either make videos or stream to twitch/youtube/justin.tv or many other services.

Then  you can convert the files using Freemake to make the files smaller and more manageable/easier to download.
