to learn two foreign languages in my school, including yours and I was

never this bitter. Especially about a simple ad. Never thought I would get on a soap box about a Coca Cola advertisement either. Sure not all of you are this xenophobic? I mean, you cannot be, right?

*gasps* Is it really possible that commercials can have a deeper meaning?

This commercial is supposed to either demonstrate that America is a melting pot composed of many different cultures OR that Coca-cola was created in the United States but is enjoyed by the entire world. Either way,  most or all of these messages are evidence that you should always think before you speak.

Thank you for posting the actual commercial. I totally forgot that. I was sort of bigoted to think all of you watched the super bowl.

Well, Coca Cola still is and always will be worlds most popular snake oil.

Those posts were so funny.  It is known that America is a melting pot and most people speak other languages than english here in America.  You can go to some places and they don't even speak english anymore here in America!  In the next town over we have a McDonalds and no one speaks an ounce of english!

I thought the coca cola commercial was very tasteful and showed the true America.  It's sad people are so closed minded.

One think that makes me laugh is how most of these say "We speak American". Now, I'm not claiming to be a linguist expert, but I don't think "American" is a language. But if I recall, America never did establish an official language (one of the few countries that have not). English is just the language that the majority happens to speak. But English, itself is not 'American'. Our language came from Europe. So if you want to classify our language by country, "We speak Britain with an accent. So I guess it is unpatriotic to sing this song in English because that language really belongs to Britain....

But yeah. But take a look at the profile pictures of all the people who make these comments. What do they look like? Almost all of them are white. Former Europeans. Europeans who clearly do not agree with our founding father's reason for leaving Europe long ago. Such stuck up, fascist, bigots. How ridiculous is it that one of the most sensitive buttons that gets strong conservatives pissed off is not speaking English? Really? Of all the other things out there, speaking English has to be one of your red buttons?

rcarter2 : I think I missed your point with the "Far right wing comservatism at it's finest". Are you saying that the racism was a show of extreme conservativism (if that's even a word)? If so, I must respectfully disagree. I'm extremely conservative, but I can't stand racism in any form. I don't think Conservative has to equal closed-minded at all, just standing for ones views, rather than embracing new ideas as they are introduced, though I have no disrespect for liberal opinions.


As for the commercial, I was confused, as I first thought these were people in other nations singing it. However, it occurs to me that they seem to have been different nationalities all in the U.S., so I now understand. With that view, I have to say I think the commercial was beautiful, and described America well. At any rate, it meritted no criticism, and I thought it was cool. Those comments were highly offensive, and showed off the ignorance of those making them.

Eirinn : Oh, absolutely not. I am not saying that right wing conservatism equals racism. When you take a category with the sarcastic comment "at its finest", that is in reference to the extremists of that side. Extreme left wing liberalism people are ridiculous too. But in this particular case, the ones who are getting their underwear in a twist are the more extreme conservatives. But I am more than aware that those people don't reflect conservatism in its entirety. It isn't like I think you are all Anne Coulter or Rush Limbaugh just because they are one of the main faces of conservative journalism.

I honestly cannot understand why people dislike people who are not like themselves.

These people are xenophobes if not racists. If I knew any of them, I would be force to tell them they are incredibly stupid (for not understanding that multiculture is a big part of America) and closed minded.

Coca cola is the most popular soft drinkin every country (barr mine) so they arent going to want to minimise their audience.
Equally theycouldbe trying to show american values are shared around the world.
