I like older American cartoons versus newer ones.

I can stand an episode of Tom and Jerry. I can't stand an episode of "Ed, Edd, and Eddy", "Family Guy", or "South Park". Still anime beats T&J senseless (although most like T&J for familiarity).

Japanese Anime can be so funny and amazing. "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Revolution" is my favorite anime for it's action and genius main character.

"Avatar: The last airbender" and "Avatar: Legend of Korra" would be second and third, so kudos to American producers for those two shows! Still, cartoons is such a broad category so I find it difficult to compare the two as a whole (like comparing P&F to Geass).

I would choose an anime I watch so much of it including Pokemon which is my favorite. I have been watching anime for years now and Anime is much better then American Cartoons by a lot in my opinion.

Some American Cartoons are very annoying sometimes.

I think anime is so much more diverse and higher in quality than it's American counterpart that there isn't any competition what so ever really, it is like a weedy kid in year 7 trying to fight the college rugby team and boxing club at once.

A few years ago I would say Anime, but I am getting into some newer american cartoons that the kids watch.  I love spiderman, hulk, avengers, Adventure Time, Uncle Grandpa and so on.  So now for me it's a mixed bag.  I still really love watching anime there is better quality in anime I have noticed.

Definitely American. But I am not sure if there are actual animation studios so much in USA anymore. Most cartoons I like are more or less made in Korea these days it would seem. I like animation that is scripted in America and animated in Korea?

I love anime, but have problems finding anime that I'd consider clean to watch.  Overall my vote goes to American shows, since there's a greater abundance of shows I'm willing to watch (like The Legend of Korra), but I sure do love a good anime.  

Also, Phineas and Ferb is my favorite show.  "It's a horse in a bookcase..."

The line seems to be kinda blurred at this point.

Both sides take influences from each other.

I think I have to say Japanese animation though.
They seem to have more of a variety of themes and intended audiences, while American animation tends to learn more towards a younger audience.
