My favorite program is Windows Journal, which may sound simple when it's not. I've tried Word, One note, and even Excel. I've had bad experiences with One note where the work isn't saved automatically when my computer crashed. Word is probably second best, but I have trouble with line editing after drawing. Even Journal has this problem where the file can be corrupted and all new data might be lost.

Needless to say, it's been through years of experimenting with different programs that I resettled for Journal. Which leads me to my question, what do you think would be the best software for notes on the computer?

Hopefully answers will help both me and other students struggling to find a program that works well.

EideticMemory : There is obviously something called the notepad which lets you type anything and you can save it on stuff. It is pretty much just a piece of paper. I don't use any deluxe thing or anything. I just go simple so I use the notepad. Why do you think they call it notepad?? xD

Black Bot : Notepad is generally used for coding but yes I see your point by stating the obvious but there are some programs that let you write notes that stay on the screen all of time unless they are closed or minimized, notepad doesn't do that.

I usually use ms paint. You can draw and type stuff and paste pictures to remind me of things.

It's not that I haven't thought about notepad and mspaint. I've used them both on occasion, it's just that Journal and One note have the features for both and more.

I'm currently researching "Evernote"

I would have to say the notepad would be your best guess. It may not have both features that you are looking for but it gets the job done easily and simple. I hope you can find something you like if that doesn't work out.

I prefer Notepad++

It is an awesome editor that can be used to write notes but can also be used to edit code as well.
Its also open sourced and accepts add-ons.

Notepad. It is relatively simple, and I find it very quick and easy to handle. It really comes in handy.
