Here are the steps that Nintendo should have done if they Want Doki Doki Panic to be popular or well liked

Step 1: Release it to US or something with another name, without the word "Mario" in it
Step 2: Do not replace sprits
Step 3: ??????
Step 4: PROFIT

It's the name, people want a MARIO game, and they think that this game cannot be called "Mario", so they automatically think it sucks...

It is a decent game I guess, but I don't like plat-formers too much for some reason, unless it has speed or lots of jumping (CONTRA, Not mario).

I don't know why people hate it so much. I like it. Maybe because it wasn't like Super Mario Brothers. I have to agree. I hated the lost levels also.

It didn't have Mario saving the Princess like the first one which probably confused a lot of people considering the third super Mario bros game went back to Mario saving the Princess from Bowser.

I've always felt people disliked the game because it was just different from the 1st one, which was greatly loved. It's the same as how people feel about Castlevania II or Zelda II. None of them are bad games on there own but changed too many things for many people. If they were standalone games (or if SMB2 had stayed Doki Doki Panic stateside) the games may have been given more of a fair chance but might have also fallen under the radar because they lacked the iconic stars. I always feel it's unfair to judge anything by how much it's like the original. If you want to play the same game, just play it,. Don't expect to make sequels that are just clones
