I learn my jobs so well that I can teach.
Before it was not needed.
Today?
Every newbie values my advice and methods like they were "Gospel".
Every day I hear "Thanks".
Why is doing a simple job now the equivalent of "brain surgery" to the new generation.
Has my generation become so competitive that they can not bother to teach unless it's in the "Job Description"??
People.
Please help me out with this one.
I am tired of helping grown men tie their "shoe laces." (So to speak.)
It's getting on my nerves.
When I was a kid everyone gave me odd advice that I could not use till later in life.
Today?
Everyone holds their info like they are playing poker or something.
A little light on the subject would be nice.
I'll even give vizz for it if I dig the responce.
Good Luck.
Peace.

Oh I remember I had a boss like that.
She would be given people to train to become new bosses or assistant managers.  But she thought they were going to replace her so she would go on vacation when she got them and handed them to me.  She would also not give me complete advice so I would mess up on tasks and get in trouble with the company.  She did all of this just so no one could replace here.  Guess what it's been 6 years and she's still the boss there!

So I guess what I am trying to say is people don't teach others the tricks of the trade most likely because they don't want to get replaced or bested from their 'student'.  I hoped this helped!

Few people exercise initiative at work nowadays.  You're at a job for a while and you move to another one.  No one stays with the same place, except maybe government workers.

Also, roles are so well-defined that people openly discourage training within the ranks.  My job has a re-branding right now and we have a very specific style of interaction with guests and members.  We don't want our front desk to train each other because they're often wrong.  So, we curtail it to only a few people.

Those who train, though, do so with enthusiasm and do an excellent job.

But most younger folks do their job, do the minimum required, and no more.  Maybe it's cultural, maybe it's the younger generation, but it's not a problem with me.  I love the ones who want more because they excel.  The kids these days weed themselves out with who wants to grow and improve and who just does their job.  It makes my hunt for junior management that much easier.
