Hi, I have always had this question. I want to know which is better once and for all. Legend of Zelda. Or the Mario bros. I have always thought this to be a tough decision and I just wanted to know what the Vizzed board thought. Have fun voting. If you can, I would like you to tell me why you like one or the other more.

They're different but from a pure which is better standpoint, Zelda beats Mario every time.  it has depth, it has story line, it has upgrades and different areas to discover and the top-down format is really interesting compared to the side-scroller version.  It's newer than Mario so it has better graphics, a better engine, and it plays better.  The original mario would bore folks who didn't play it as a kid much quicker than Zelda would.

Zelda by and far is the better game from an objective standpoint.

But Mario came first and Mario is the gold standard for all video games we know.  Of course it has its own place in history.

I am having the same voting problem as warmaker.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Zelda games have much more depth than most games let alone mario games, I think the only games that top this series would be the good games in the Sandbox genre. There is more you can do, there are different ways to play and the series of mainstream games tend to be unique from each other. However you can easily get bored of the series if you are lost or do not know what to do, these games are really hard without the help of the internet.
On the other hand we have the Mario series. A game that pretty much anyone can play. It doesn't take long to learn the controls and the objective and in pretty much all of the games have a multiplayer mode unlike Zelda. 
For me Mario just isn't quite up to the standards of the Legend of Zelda series. The reason being, only the first 5 games (the 3 NES and 2 SNES) were fun for me and boy they are. If all of the series was as good as that I would prefer Mario but since not, my decision is made.

I'm a fan of both, but I'm a way bigger Mario fan though. I've been playing Mario since I was six years old. Super Mario 64....Mario seems like the most interesting video game character to me. But you can't deny that I am a big Zelda fanatic. I own every Zelda game except for two of the CDI games. The games are pretty different in my opinion. Mario gives me nostalgia, and A Link To The Past gives me joy to play and compelling puzzles to beat, Super Mario Sunshine is the best Mario game ever, Majora's Mask, makes me set goals like helping the townspeople, but overall, I think Mario wins. I own a lot more Mario games than Zelda, but Zelda is my second favorite. Like Mento said, they have strengths and weaknesses.

Mario is incredibly fun, but don't have as much adventure as Zelda, and Zelda games can have hard and tiring puzzles at times. In Zelda games, on my first run, I'll always have myself using some sort of guide at some point on my first run. I have never had to in Mario games.

eh... I really like both... they are very fun to play and I enjoy playing them... Zelda has a great story line and plot in the games, while Mario is a fun game series I have played since I was very young.

But if I must pick one, I'll go with Legend of Zelda.

I grew up on mario bros.

I am going to go with Mario Bros. When I was younger, I have played a couple hours of Zelda, but I didn' really get a chance to play a lot of it. Mario on the other hand, I still play a lot.
