I want to get into Aphex Twin. I heard great things about his music, but there is one thing that is holding me back: Equation. Equation is one of Aphex Twin's most infamous songs because you are listening to Aphex Twin's face. No, seriously, if you play the song on something like Foobar 2000 you can come up with a image of his face. I've been scared of it ever since I found it while looking through JWittz's Lavender Town video and Cracked.com.

So here are the requirements:
1. No ambient music, unless it is THAT good.
2. The song must not have a spectographic image. That means Equation is disqualified.

Here are the songs I already listened to by him:
Stone In Focus
PacMan Power Pill Mix
City Of Lost Angels from Fallout, which is a version of Aphex's Grass

Thanks for reading!

I am a little bit of a fan of Aphex Twin myself. Like you I am not too much of a fan of the ambient tracks because, well they are not songs to really enjoy as songs but to enhance some sort of environmental scene or something.
Well here is a list...

- WindowLicker (this one does have an image but it is just a swirl and is at roughly 2:32)
- Xtal (pretty much the only good ambient song)
- Analogue Bubblebath
- Come to Daddy
- Flim
- Vaz Deferenz

MechaMento :

Xtal, Heliosphan, and Rhubarb are easily Aphex's best ambient songs.

I have always wondered why a spiral was put in Windowlicker. Hmm...

Come To Daddy sounds like it has one of the creepiest music videos ever.

Film sounds like one of those really good songs from SAW 85-92. Listening to it right now.

Those are some pretty good picks. Thanks!

fablefire : I tend to just listen to music on spotify. It is free and legal and is just the music. I assume you were going to watch them on youtube if you are afraid of the music video. Spotify has a much better sound quality than youtube, much like an ipod though I would use headphones because most PC mics are bad.

If you like Aphex Twin you might like Orbital, The Chemical Brothers (their older stuff in particular, roughly 1996 - 2005) and The album Acceleration by the Future sound of London.

I was going to write Lifeforms but just realized that is actually by Future sound of London. No I cant for the life of me remember anything by the Aphex twin...

Well check out Lifeforms if you haven't already anyways. Orbital I never much cared for but maybe I should try again after all these years.

I got my first Aphex Twin album, which is Classics. Good album so far, but Flapjack sounds a little familiar...

If you want to know, I actually got a Nexus 7 for Christmas, so I can listen to some Aphex Twin on the go.

I heard good things about Aphex Twin as well. I have only listened to Come To Daddy and Windoclicker which were both decent to me.

I heard the outro beat from Windowlicker contained that spiral spectogram. Spirals have never sounded so good.

I haven't heard a lot about Aphex Twin, it seems a lot of people have though. I find myself wondering around different music a lot of times, I should give this a shot and see what it's all about.

Bintsy : Listen to SAW 85-92. Best place to start. Then work your way up to Richard D. James Album and I Care Because You Do. Also listen to some songs from SAW 2, Windowlicker EP, and Come To Daddy EP.

I've been listening to Aphex Twin a lot recently and I knew I had to come back to this and tell you that Cock/ver10 and Afx237 v.7 are tracks you'll need to listen to.

I also recommend some of squarepusher's work like My Red Hot Car and Go! Spastic! In some ways those songs are similar to Aphex Twin however they are also quite unique.

I did listen to some of the songs from Drukqs and I finished Richard D. James Album. Those songs are really good.

I also listened to a bit of Boards and Canada. I will also will be listening to Squarepusher because of your recommendation.

I also was listening to Caustic Window, one of Richard's aliases for other genres in music. Humanoid Must Not Escape sounds like something straight out of Robotron X.

Also, can you tell me the first track Aphex was playing in this live mix?:?http://www.mixcloud.com/keyfumbler/aphex-twin-colorado-ogden-theatre-1997/?It sounds great.
