Over the past week or two, Sega has released 3D remakes of some of their classic titles from the arcade/Genesis on the Nintendo eSHOP for the 3DS. Each title is 5.99$usd available for download now.

These titles include (all have 3D in the name, surprise surprise)

Space Harrier - I have always loved space Harrier and this 3D remake looks cool! I can't wait to play this! http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/gn5F1L663rR2aPb5WzBG97aWvusuXzVz

Super Hang On

Altered Beast

Ecco The Dolphin - I loved this game on the Genesis and I'm excited to see that they did a remake . Looks like I'm going to have to get it lol.

Galaxy Force II: Surprisingly, I'm not as familiar with this title. Looks like a cool game though. Still, less of a priority for me to DL right away.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Yes, the original game remade for the 3DS. How does that not sound intriguing to any Sonic fan?

Shinobi III - Another one of my favorite Sega Genesis titles. Actually, one of my favorite side scrolling adventure games on the console.

Streets of Rage - One of the greatest beat 'em up franchises of all time. Great game.

Sega has confirmed that more titles are in development and are to be released. I really hope they keep this up for awhile. So many titles would be awesome to get a 3D update...let's hope the games sell well! http://www.siliconera.com/2013/11/30/sega-working-3d-classics-nintendo-3ds/

Which game are you excited to play?

What? No Toejam & Earl 3D? lol That would be an easy sell to me.

Out of these titles, I'd be more inclined to get Altered Beast 3D most. I wonder what else they plan to give us.

Thanks Jordanv78, now I really want a 3ds! Dude Ecco the Dolphin in 3D, that is a must see for me. I really just swim around in that game but now that its 3D I can swim in all directions. Altered Beast is another game I would love to see in 3D. I am a huge fan of that game (as you can probably already tell from my profile pic). I would like to see the Sonic game all though I don't think there is anything anyone could do to make Sonic the Hedgehog better then it already was.

...Magnificent! I'm excited! I've always wanted to try Ecco the Dolphin. And a classic Sonic game is nothing to sneeze at either.

Eirinn : You know what? A remake of the First Toe Jam would work surprisingly well in a 3D format on 3DS....with the space levels and all of that. Plus being able to fall to lower levels. Would also be sweet as a wi-fi mulitplayer experience. Please Sega, make this happen!

GenesisJunkie : No problem. I actually purchased mine just to play the Sequel to a Link to the Past - A Link Between Worlds. Pretty sweet game by the way. But now that these classic Sega titles come out, I have the next games I want to play.

I probably will pick most of them up at some point but I'm super excited to start playing Ecco and Space Harrier right away. Most of the titles are games that I would like to play aside from that Galaxy Force II game that I am not quite familiar with.

becerra95 : Duuude. I know.

UFC : Some people complain about the game but it's pretty average in that department to other adventure games from that era. Just that it's underwater. The other games though certainly have something to offer everyone.

A user of this : Exactly. First thing I said when I saw that Ecco 3D and Space Harrier 3D were available was "Why don't I own these games yet" lol

I never really played any Sega Genesis games outside of the Sonic series(thanks to Sonic Mega Collection) but I do want to play these now that they're on a Handheld.
Even though I only have a 2DS, there does seem to be some added features so it'll probably still be as fun.

I played more than enough Space Harrier in Shenmue... oh, who am I kidding? There's no such thing as too much Space Harrier

I'd love to play Space Harrier and Sonic the Hedgehog in 3D, those games would really work well with the 3D.

I just don't know what else I'd buy if I got a 20 dollar eshop card, and I don't like how the 3DS has no purchase transfers.

Jordanv78 : You and me think alike, as soon as I saw Space Harrier added, I bought it. Not only is it a great game but it's a perfect game for 3D. I'll probably also grab Sonic once I get more money into my account.

I don't think these are actual remakes, they're basically ports with a few added features (features including saved scores, 3D and ability to save replays). Anyways, with these awesome games being introduced to the 3DS I may have to pick one of them for an RGR competition next month lol.

becerra95 : Yeah Space Harrier has an awesome soundtrack. I was introduced to the game by Shenmue so the music, the guy's voice and the game in general always brings back memories to that awesome era.

Rasenganfan2 : I'm assuming you're like me and was introduced to Space Harrier by Shenmue? Yeah I put a ton of hours into Space Harrier on Shenmue, in fact I got so good at the game in Shenmue that I made it into the top 20 world wide on their leaderboard. Definitely a game you can't get sick of.

Davideo7 : Yeah it is one of those games thats perfect for a 3D format. I agree.

As far as the games themselves go, I guess I mispoke when I put "remake" I realize they are just ports. It's kinda like when they do the HD upgrades on old games. Only in this case not HD but 3D. ;-) Updates, if you will lol

Either way, they are all games I want to play.

Davideo7 : Yeah, Shenmue was my introduction to Space Harrier and all of the arcade games. Whenever there was an im-game day where you did nothing, you best believe that I was playing Space Harrier or darts. I think you should try Catherine, as it's fairly similar to Shenmue as far as exceptional story writing goes.

Davideo7 : No, it's linear, but it's still a terrific game. I'd look up reviews if I were you.

Another game that comes highly recommended is Sleeping Dogs. It's a sandbox game where you play as an undercover cop infiltrating the triad. It has melee combat, an amazing story, loads of content, and it's long, just like Shenmue. Plus, you might just have it on your PS3. It was the PS+ game of the month a few months back.

I can't recommend both games enough, David. Catherine does have a lot to do with relationships and, to an extent, sex. It's nothing graphic, but it it is there. Catherine genuinely is one of the best games I've ever played, as is Sleeping Dogs. Hope this helps

Jordanv78 : I'm going to be honest, if it weren't for the stereoscopic 3d of these Sega releases, I'd probably not be all that interested since a lot of them can be found on the Xbox 360 where you can earn achievements and compete on leaderboards. Nintendo really needs to add a leaderboard feature to their games so you can compete against your friends and people worldwide in scores. The stereoscopic 3d does make most of these must own games (and because of the portability).

Rasenganfan2 : I looked up Catherine and I didn't really see the comparisons, it seemed more like a dirty adult game.

I actually did download the demo of Sleeping Dogs and that did remind me a lot of Shenmue. If it weren't for the excessive swearing in that game, I'd probably buy it and play it (I have to be careful what I play and watch now days because of my kids).

But yeah, I have always wanted to get Sleeping Dogs and now that you've recommended it, I'm even more excited to play it. Due to the kid situation, I'd pretty much have to play it after they go to bed which would give me less than an hour a day to play it so if I get it, it'll probably take me a year to beat it lol.

Davideo7 : I'm not shocked that you found Catherine to be a dirty adult game, even though it's not. It's actually got a very serious undertone and doesn't have much "fan service (basically erotic stuff)," but that's another game you wouldn't want to play around the kids. I think the comparison to Catherine was more or less the tightly wound narrative, and how it carried itself seriously, but not too seriously.

I can't seem to find a mod for Sleeping Dogs that's a swear filter. Not shocked, but still. I also forgot that your kids were old enough to understand words now. Thanks for making me feel old, jerk =p
Davideo7 : I'm not shocked that you found Catherine to be a dirty adult game, even though it's not. It's actually got a very serious undertone and doesn't have much "fan service (basically erotic stuff)," but that's another game you wouldn't want to play around the kids. Davideo7 : The 3D is the main draw I have to admit. Honestly we all have these roms and have played them a million times. I also like the fact that they are portable. I agree with the leaderboard stuff though.

At least they put the Miiiverse stuff online so the 3DS has more of a community feel where you can share content. Hopefully they can build from that.

That's pretty good that they decided to finally remake the classic 2D games, and with the 3D element in play, who wouldn't want to play those games all at once? I'm excited for Sonic and Ecco the Dolphin. Those games are amazing.

Eirinn :

I summoned you guys because I knew you were at least mildly interested in these 3D updated classics. I noticed today that they have just recently released

Shinobi III 3D

And

Streets of Rage 3D

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/12/19/3d-shinobi-iii-3d-streets-rage-today-nintendo-eshop/

Both titles are AWESOME. Shinobi 3 is one of my favorite side scrolling adventures on the Genesis.

Like we all assumed, Sega is keeping up and has confirmed that more of these titles are in development and to be released. There are so many games I would like to see released like Toe Jam 1 and Comix Zone. What are some titles you hope get a 3d update?
