So since I started 8th grade, I have had some problems with my new teacher. At the start of the year, we had a substitute teacher for 4 weeks, as my teacher was taking care of her daughter. All was fine until she returned.
She got back around the beginning of October, and things only went downhill. She is overly strict, incredibly mean, and treats kids like every question is somehow wrong. For example, I needed a pass to use the computer during study hall. I walk in, and ask her for the pass. She looks at me, with a look that mixes disgust and confusion, and asks me in that voice that if you have a sibling, it's that I-hate-you-why-are-you-talking-to-me-voice, and asks "Why would you need that." I tell her I don't know why, my study hall teacher just told me to get one. So she begrudgingly says "I guess I can do that,"
This is every single time I ask a question. And unbelievably, this isn't even the worst part. She is a terrible teacher. She tries to teach the lesson, but does it in the most confusing way, that I can barely understand what she is trying to teach. The material is review, and she makes it garbled and complicated. I'm not a bad student either, I am taking advanced classes like 9th grade English on the side of normal English, and that stuff is easier than what she is trying to teach us. With the fact that I already hate English class 80% of the time, it makes it an awful, awful class.
Recently, we have gotten a teacher's assistant, and the class is way better than it was before. Has anyone else had a problem with a bad teacher? Like, bad at teaching, overly strict, just a bad person to be around, etc?

In sixth grade, I had a science teacher that I just didn't like, and she didn't like me, either. She wrote me up for things I wasn't exactly sure I did, and the way she did labs were just overly complicated. She was almost never there, actually. She was gone for 7 months (she was out from November to near the end of the year [June]) while she was out caring for her son who had cancer.

EDIT: I believe he died, too, so that may be why she was out seven-eighths of the year. I didn't have any problems with her at the end end of the year, though, but I just thought the first part of the year was quite bad, and was notable.

Another teacher that was pretty bad was my health teacher in 10th grade. I swear that she would go from talking about nutrition or drugs to that she she picked up her son from school one day. We were doing presentations on disorders and It took us about a month to get through them all because she kept getting off topic and talked for 10 minutes about it. I had her every other day, but there were only 23 students in my class and we could easily get through half of them in a 40 minute class period.

I know that feeling. My own English teacher was(and is) a horrible English. We spend entire, ENTIRE class periods, just listening to her lecture about her life and hear her stories. Seriously, I haven't learned anything about English in the whole year. She's basically just made me write a few papers that I did in 9th grade. It's. Horribly. Dull.

The only plus side is that the class is absurdly easy.

I feel bad dude, I think this is horrible that your teacher is like that. If anything she should at least try to be nice after being away for so long. It really sucks for one primary reason, if is already a class that isn't your strongest and you aren't the best at, it only makes it all the worse when you have a teacher who doesn't do a good job of teaching it. I know what that is like man, it sucks and I know what you mean. I have an ap class and it is very challenging, but at least my ap teacher is a cool, funny person, he makes the class all the more exciting to learn. If he was drab, dull and strict, then everyone wouldn't be interested and I probably couldn't have as good a grade in that class as I do now. So the teacher makes all the difference in the way they teach and the attitude they have.

My economics teacher this year is horrible, I mean HORRIBLE, the class itself is already pointless and boring, but he is a bad teacher. No one listens to him and his method of getting everyone to quiet down is counting down from 3 and turning the lights off. That might have worked in 3rd grade, but in high school? Not so much.  He always gives notes every class which is fine, but then he gives a test/quiz every class as well. All of the 'fun' activities are boring and no one participates. In a way I feel bad for this guy because he is new this year and no one listens to him.

Last year it was my earth science teacher, my god, she didn't teach us anything. All she did was make us take notes from a powerpoint and then she would give a 50 question test like every 2 classes. She mostly just sat at her computer and did no actual teaching. And when that is the case, you can imagine the grades some kids got on the SOL test....

So what it all comes down to is the attitude the teacher has towards the students. If they are drab, strict and hateful and dull towards everything then most likely the students will be less interested and less participant in the class, thus leading to bad grades. Depending on the subject, it could be even worse. So the attitude the teacher has makes all the difference in my opinion. I am sorry for you man. I hope you get better luck with teachers next year.

I'm seeing a bit of a pattern with English teachers here... mine's no exception, though. Even though I've already ragged on him a bit, I just really dislike him.
For one, I don't learn anything there. All he does is hand out little worksheets and make us read and summarize books, and he doesn't even explain the worksheets at all.
For another he doesn't even really teach. He'll just sit at his desk drinking or reading and doing NOTHING to help his students learn!
The other thing that irks me is how BIASED he is. I'll be working together with my friend and we'll help each other out, and then HE gets lower marks when we basically did the same answers and the same amount of work! I eagerly await the day this guy retires...
My Socials and French teachers both share a little bit about their lives, but I don't mind since my Socials teacher did a LOT of funny, crazy stuff and my French teacher mostly just tells us little highlights about her weekend. I actually kind of enjoy it since it kind of helps the teacher and students connect a bit, as long as they don't go over board, like yours obviously did, Egbert.

Oh that's really bad.. my English teachers were always really good to me and English was my favorite subject. A lot of the teachers like my typing teacher and history teacher were very strict.. to me.. and my typing teacher was very rude.. he would yell at me for nothing sometimes and he would give me a bad grade when actually I did all the correct work .. I just finished it at a different time but it was in the time that it was suppose to be done.. I still don't understand why he disliked me so much but I guess some teachers are just cruel..

Nope . My teachers are not always " Good " but not bad . All I do is sit and try my best to understand . When that fails .. ask someone to explain to me .  Plus I study teachers so I know what to do and what not to do around them :3

Wow.... I feel sorry for you. Most of my teachers are really good with their job. However there were a few teachers I didn't really like, but they weren't really terrible. My band teacher in grade 4 and 5 was really strict with me and pressured me to be great. But he was probably better than my computer teacher in grade 6. She was really mean and clearly showed who she liked and didn't like. She also didn't really teach us too well. Well, by the end of the year, she either quit or got fired. (I don't remember that well what happened)

Other than those two, I haven't really had a problem with any teacher.
