Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green Chapter Nine: Patching Things Up That sure was the happiest day of my
life! It didn’t show before, but I was simply dying to know how my childhood
friend, Leaf, felt about me. I hoped it was the same way I felt about her.
Luckily, it was! She told me I was different from Yellow and Blue, and that I
was special. Special the way she liked it, too. I couldn’t help but admit my
feelings towards her as well. She smiled. It was such a relief to get that out
of the way! We were officially “together”. What happened later though wasn’t as
pleasant.
After gobbling up the tasty
chocolate-chip cookie Leaf had given me a few minutes before, I took a little
walk outside the edge of the forest. Surprised, I stumbled upon Yellow, who was
leaning on a tree, unconscious and badly beaten up. Dropping the half of the
cookie hanging off of my mouth, I ran to him, and shook his shoulders. “Yellow?
YELLOW!!!” There was no response, however, and I noticed the huge bruises on
his arms and his black eye. “Oh, God… what happened to the poor little thing?”
I returned to Leaf, and asked if I could borrow her Squirtle, Squirt for a
little while. “Sure!” I picked up Squirt and returned to Yellow. I took off my
knapsack and took out the ice tray my mom had packed for me. “Alright, Squirt,
use Water Gun into each of these little spaces!” Squirt nodded. “Squir…TLE!!!”
He shot water into the ice tray. “Perfect! Now use your Ice Beam to freeze
‘em!” After he did, I put the ice cubes into my knapsack, which I had just
emptied. I felt the bottom of the bag. It was nice and cold. “Perfect.” Then, I
placed it on top of his black eye.
“Ah…” This is when he was starting to
wake up. “Yellow!” I smiled, giving him a hug. “You’re alright!” He then went
on to explain how he got busted up in the first place. I was shocked. It had
never occurred to me that Blue was so brutal. We chatted some more, and after
telling him to make sure he kept that ice pack on his eye, I got up. “I’m going
to back to Leaf. I need to return her Squirtle. See you!” Yellow waved, and I
ran back into the woods. I plopped Squirt back onto Leaf’s lap. “Here you go.”
I collapsed beside her, and then wiped the sweat off of my forehead. “Whew.” She
tossed a bottle of water to me. “Need a drink, Red?” I twisted off the cap and
nodded. “Yeah. Thanks.” And then I took a large, satisfying gulp. “Ah. I needed
that.” I leaned on the tree and sighed. “So, uh… Where’s Blue?” Leaf pointed
her finger to the left. She looked uneasy. “He seemed troubled. Red… He and
Yellow aren’t really the best of friends right now, and I’m just his arch
rival. You though are more of his best friend, I noticed. You both don’t act
like it, but you’ve always got each other’s backs, and he really does trust and
care for you, Red. Go talk to him.” She was right. If there was anyone to
settle down Blue, it was me. I nodded. I twisted my backwards cap around and
got up. “Right. See you!”
She gave me a little shove in the back,
and I hopped on my way. I made my way deeper into the woods. This part of the
forest was really dark, and most of the sky was covered by the plentiful evergreen
trees. I banged my knee on a tree stump. “Ouch!” I yelled, and grabbed my knee
while hopping around, trying not to lose my balance. My cap fell off. I
muttered. I picked it up and walked further. Then, behind a bunch of vines
hanging from the treetops, I finally found him. “Blue! “ I called, running to
him, smiling. Then I stopped in front of him and caught my breath. “Whew… Sure
is hard to breathe in here, eh?” But he didn’t say anything. I sensed an
ominous situation on the way. “So, uh… You okay? I, um, heard you… kind of had
a little spar with, uh… w-with Yellow.” Finally, he turned around. “Yes. He was
asking for it.” I tried to be nice. “Oh. So, uh… how did he ask for it?” He
walked closer. “The brat called me Blue! Can you believe it?” I was terribly
confused. “Wait, you’re name’s not Blue?” He put his palm on his face. There
was something I was missing. Blue sighed. “Yes, Red. My name is Blue, but that
punk Yellow should’ve addressed me as ‘Master Blue’.”
I thought it was absurd to do what he
did to poor Yellow for such a tiny reason. But I decided not to argue with him.
He was already bad enough in the mood he was in. I stretched my arms and put
them behind my head. “Okay… Was it just a little fight, or you two can’t bear the
sight of each other?” He paused. “I can’t answer that. The same may not apply
for Yellow.” I turned my head. “Oh.” The two of us just awkwardly stood there,
with an occasional cough or wheeze. “So, uh… see you.” I ran back to Leaf, who
was on the edge of the forest, where it was brighter and you could see the sky.
I was panting and wheezing. I collapsed next to her once again. “Phew. That was
some run.” She put her hand on my shoulder. “So, any luck?” I shook my head. “No…
I’m still not sure if he forgives Yellow or not.” Leaf stretched her arms and
yawned. She rubbed her eyes and blinked slowly. “He’ll come to his senses
eventually. For the time being, we all need our rest.” She, this time
knowingly, plopped her sleepy head onto my shoulder once more. “Good night,
Red.” I stuttered. “What about Yellow?” She pushed my cap down, covering my
eyes. “Ouch! Hey!” I said, pushing it back into place. She laughed. “Don’t
worry, silly. He’ll be fine. He said he grew up in a forest, remember?” I did. ‘Oh,
yeah… Well, I think I’ll hit the hay, too, then. Good night.” And then, I fell
asleep.
