He's the most experienced of the Star Fox
team members, and you would think that he
would know a Cornerian Ship when he sees it.

Why is it him? Wouldn't Slippy be a better
character to have make the mistake?

I think it's alone a dumb bug from the programmers, but however, Silppy is too much of a scarypants to even shoot an enemy.

I'd say it's because he's old. xP He has either gone senile, or he has PTSD and a crew member flying ahead brings him back to the time where Pigma and what'shisface betrayed the Star Fox Team and killed James McCloud. And he involuntarily shoots the Arwing speeding ahead of him.

Ah-ha! I managed to be right....I don't visit Katina that much in SF64... XD 

Well I guess despite everyone's answer being right, Peppy is old and possibly his sight ain't like it use to be but you do have to remember that the tactic on Katina for the enemy was to paint their ships and make them look just like the Green Eagles. From a game standpoint, that's the game showing the player what's happening and that you need to be careful. I think it also shows character development because Peppy making the sad mistake of accidentally shooting an ally means even the best of the best can make errors, which leaves them "humanized" and relatable. 

As for Slippy...well the answer is obvious. He's too busy being chased the entire time to even line up a shot.. X3

Well I have no name for the fighters and even if they did, I likes yours more. I mean Katina seems like it could be a push over planet to enemies but their air force commanded by COMMANDER Bill Grey..they do an amazing job at both defensive and offensive.

And honestly, there really are times where Slippy just all of a sudden steps his game up on a level and just starts nailing enemies. He's more clumsy and careless at times but never does take away from his decent pilot abilities despite him being of the more engineering career.

I think There are many good answers and i have a fewI will say the ones that are the best and most true (that havent been said yet) But my favorite and most reasonable that I came up with is that they wouldn't press Z twice to.........DO A BARREL ROLL!!!!! Another  reason is he kept on trying to destroy Slippy by pressing the B button to fire a smart bomb! Also by being a tutorial he  HAS to be evil or he has gone crazy from being a tutorial character. And the last reason is: he got replace by the wookies on Star Wars. Okay now for a reason not has funny.  Peppy has a hard time getting the buttons right because of the effect from being in space for a long time and maybe the Ships are diffrent than they were in the old days when he first started.
