Twinleaf Academy - Chapter One:

A Life-Changing Event

My name is Courtney. I was a bright, cheerful, blonde girl of ten living peacefully with my family in the beautiful region of Kalos. Life was simple, and I had not a worry in the world. I stayed with my mom and dad in a small, brick house in Snowbelle City. Snowbelle City was very cold - especially during winter. That's when my friend, Charles, and I would sing Christmas carols, make snow-angels, snowmen, have epic snowball wars, and sip hot chocolate while watching horror movies. Winter was, and is, my favorite season of the year. It was always the one where I made the most memorable and precious memories. Life in Kalos was great, and I enjoyed it very much. At least until that cursed day. Five kids a little older than I was were on the news. They were all standing on a stage in Lumiose City in front of a large, cheerful audience. The reporters kept on calling Calem, Serena, Tierno, Trevor, and Shauna, "The Defenders of Kalos". My mom then explained to me how they had defeated an ambitious man known as Lysandre, who planned to wipe out all of humanity except for Team Flare, with the power of the legendary Yveltal. According to the news, they stopped him - according to the events that happened later that day, they didn't. It was horrible. Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fires, every devastating catastrophe you could think of, was engulfing the Kalos region. Precious few, including me, survived. I was never sure of what happened to Charles. I hadn't seen him since. The last thing I remember was my parents' last few words, under the debris of our collapsed brick house. "Courtney... take this." My mom handed me a plane ticket. "Go to Sinnoh. It's the only ticket I have." I protested, saying I wasn't leaving without them. "We will be happy, Courtney. If you do." My dad managed a tearful smile. "We love you." they said in unison. Then, I was forced to dash away because of the endless falling debris and earthquakes. Yveltal must have been very powerful. I discovered later, on the news, that the world was not brought to its end. The Defenders of Kalos apparently took one last shot at defeating Lysandre. They were successful, and they won after a long, hard fight, but, in the process, it took their lives. Tierno was struck by lighting, Trevor and Calem drowned, Shauna was thrown off by a typhoon, and poor Serena was killed by a sword-wielding Team Flare Grunt.
I took the airplane to Sinnoh just in time, and I got adopted by the Berlitz family. Very rich, but very kind. And, a month later, I was sent to Twinleaf Academy, where my adventure really began.
