sonic23 : To my opinion, I think it's easier to have the trust point system than without it because I think you want to know if you in fact trust that one user, and without the trust point system, they wouldn't be a Trusted Member rank.

Well I think it's not much of a problem to have a trust system on here, especially if you don't know to trust that user or not.

Well, the only real answer is the point system. And that's working better than what I can imagine.

The point system is one that means that other trusteds give the points. Since staff members are usually busy, they can't point out others very quickly, so that wouldn't be a very effective system. Any other one where you get them for accomplishing some mission would be easily abused. Our current point system is good enough, really:

Active trusted members trust others > give them points > if the person didn't deserve to be trusted, they both lost points.

Trust points work better because you have a large community that constantly has people join and quit.  Trust points allow people who have shown a dedication and attention to the site to have slightly more control over who they feel contributes in a positive manner.  If you hang around long enough and have people read your posts and you contribute, you'll get points.  If we all got trust points for no reason and everyone were trusted in the first few weeks or months of being here, it wouldn't mean anything.  The value goes away.  Many members want to be trusted right out the gate.  Several have even asked (begged) me to give them points so they can be trusted.

I think, "I don't know you, I don't know your thoughts and opinions.  You'll probably quit this site in a week to find something else.  Why would I do that?"

The system may encourage a clique but I'm not a part of any clique on here and I'm trusted.  It's a natural progression of belonging to this site.  It works well and I think it makes much more sense than any alternative.
