I recently came upon this question. My friend asked me this the other day, and I remember to one of my middle school days when my enlgish teacher taught the class about Carpe Diem, or living your life to the fullest.

I would say living is basically having fun while alive. You do what you can, while you can, and try to make the most of everything. You do your bucket list, and even do some other people's bucket lists when you get bored of yours.

Being alive is just living life for the heck of it. You go on the same monotonous pattern, eat, sleep, work, etc. There's no monomyth in your life, no turning point where you can really change your character and your POV on life itself. Just the same old boring person. (No offense to anyone).

Living and being alive are the exact samething. The only time they become different is if you use them poetically or philosophically.
If you want that outlook being alive is your body funtioning, being alive is doing all the things you want to do in life, its meaning is different from individual to individual.
